5 Ways to Gain More Confidence in Yourself

When a stunningly beautiful person walks into a room, people don’t just notice their beauty. In many cases, people are in awe of the confidence they possess. Confidence is attractive, and anyone can possess it. The key is to believe it for yourself. If you’ve experienced some setbacks or tough times, it’s not uncommon to feel like you could use a boost in the confidence department. Thankfully, there are quite a few ways you can work on holding your head up high and developing your confidence. Consider the following five ways.

1. Celebrate the Small Wins
If you’re moving out of a bout with depression or burnout, one of the most important things you can do is celebrate the small wins. If you made it out of bed, made the bed, and got to work on time, celebrate your efforts. If you’ve graduated from working out one time a week to three times a week, celebrate with a new workout outfit. Find small ways to encourage yourself to keep going on your journey to self-love and confidence.

2. Avoid Comparisons
A wise person once said that comparison is the thief of joy. Truthfully, there are quite a few poor habits that can steal a person’s joy. Yet, millions of people spend hours on their phones every day. They spend time looking at the highlight reels of their peers, celebrities, and random strangers. Then, the comparison and self-deprecating habits set in. It’s always important to remember that you truly don’t know the full story of any person’s life on the internet. Even if you think you know it all, you don’t know what it’s like to walk in another person’s shoes. Stop comparing your entire life’s story to a snippet of what you see online. Instead, embrace the fact that everyone is on their respective journeys. Cheer for others as you focus on your journey. Someone else’s public win doesn’t negate your private one.

3. Surround Yourself with Positivity
It takes work to build yourself up and develop a high level of confidence. This is why positivity is paramount. A great positive practice will help you get back up when you feel down about yourself. There are several ways you can surround yourself with positivity. Start by keeping a daily gratitude journal to remember the blessings in your life. It’s also great to read a motivational or inspirational book to keep your spirits lifted. Consider life coach training to gain new tools and a better perspective regarding how you can build your confidence with different tactics. Though it might seem minuscule, you have to watch your inner conversation. What does your mind go to when you have a spare moment? Do you dwell on your failures or another person’s flaws? Try to develop a habit of thinking positive thoughts because the way you talk to yourself matters. If you speak kindly to a plant, this will impact the way it grows. If this is true for a plant, it’s certainly true for the human spirit. Speak positive, kind, and helpful words to yourself because they truly make the difference.

4. Work on Your Physical Health
It’s pretty common for many people to exercise after they finish a long day at work because exercise is a stress reliever. There are plenty of health benefits associated with taking care of your physical health. You only get one mind and body. Invest in it by taking immaculate care of yourself. Get adequate amounts of rest, water, and nutritious foods. Get outside to enjoy some Vitamin D as it can boost your mood. Move your body daily to boost your endorphins. As you invest in your physical health, this will spill over into your confidence because by prioritizing your physical health, you simultaneously reaffirm the fact that you matter and deserve good care.

5. Keep Your Word
If you say you’re going to do something, follow through with it. It’s also important to be realistic about your expectations. Don’t put too much on your plate. However, when you commit to the things you say you’re going to do, you also subconsciously trust yourself more to follow through. As you accomplish the small wins and trust yourself, you’ll feel more capable and confident in the person you are becoming.

It’s often stated that happiness is an inside job. The same is true with confidence. You have to make the decision that you’re going to do the work to become the most confident version of yourself. Not only will you feel empowered to conquer more in your life, but as your light shines, you’ll subconsciously permit other people to shine their light as well.
