4 Cultural Characteristics to Look at When Deciding Where to Move

When looking to move to a new continent, country, state, community, or even estate, there are a lot of factors to consider. Home should be your happy place, so the quality of life comes first.

A bachelor and a couple with a family will have varying things to take into account when deciding to move. The overall culture and feel of the community will play a large role in this decision. The four cultural characteristics to look at when deciding where to move to include:

Material culture

The lifestyle you live will directly impact the material culture you prefer. When looking to move, you have to consider the availability of technological goods. If you don’t have a car, then you’ll need to move to a place with reliable public transport.

Also, how well connected is the community to electricity, Internet, other wireless communication, natural gas, telephone, etc.

Los Angeles is the place to settle if you have a lively lifestyle because of the vibrant musical and theatrical scene. New Mexico, on the other hand, is ideal for a more laid back lifestyle.

Consider the amount of retail shops and grocery stores in the area as well. If you don’t care for shopping on the weekends, a smaller town might be for you. If you like having access to all the large chain stores, the suburbs or city is the right choice.

Language

This cultural factor is considered when moving to a different continent or state. The language spoken by the community you move to will determine whether or not a communication barrier exists. However, if your goal is to learn a new language, moving to a different country would be perfect for you.

One would expect a country with multiple languages to have a wider cultural diversity. Such a place would be ideal for anyone looking for cultural stimulation due to diversity and different attitudes.

Education

The quality of education offered in a region impacts the economic status as well as the potential of the community. The level of education that interests you will also impact where you decide to settle.

Parents with kids will prefer an estate with a nearby kindergarten, junior, or senior high school. Look into the quality of education and the emphasis the community has on education as well.

Religion

Globalization has made religion diverse with Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Pagans, and other religious groups being found all over the world. When looking for a new place to live, your religion and the availability of a place of worship will determine the final decision.

Religion is an influencer of:

  • The role women play in society
  • The kind of foods and beverages served
  • Clothing habits
  • Festivities held

All these four cultural characteristics will impact the values, beliefs, interests, and ethics of the community. As such, you should consider them when deciding where to move. The human-rights conduct of the community and its ability to welcome even a stranger is important.

If relying on real estate services, then consult the company about the availability of social amenities like religious buildings, educational institutions, and entertainment centers. You should live in proximity to these resources!
