If you’re someone who has an extremely demanding job or a lot of responsibility between home and work, then you may find yourself at moments feeling like you’re spread too thin.
It’s normal to find yourself wholly occupied with the demands of today’s modern society. However, there’s a fine line between being busy and pushing yourself to the point of a potential burnout. One thing you need to understand is that you have a life to live apart from meeting your needs. Therefore, it is important to learn to work ‘smart’ and not hard.
Not only can a burnout be dangerous for your mental well-being, but it can also even lead to physical issues which could negatively impact your health. You may end up affecting the life that you are working hard to sustain.
If you’ve been working hard lately and are starting to question if it may be too much, here are some of the telltale signs that it may be time to reel things in.
You Are Accident Prone:
People who are exhausted tend to have trouble focusing on one thing. Often they find themselves spilling coffee, running into walls, or on the extreme end, even getting into car accidents. Being prone to accidents is a clear indication that all is not well.
If you’ve been feeling more clumsy than usual, this could be an indication of fatigue. It’s worth taking a break for a day or two to get a good night’s rest. Not only will your work performance improve, but you may avoid a potentially dangerous accident.
You’re Irritable:
Even if your work is your passion, even the people most passionate about their jobs need a break once in a while. It’s important for your own sanity to step away from your work at least a few times a day to do things like eat a meal, talk with a friend, or go for a walk. Don’t work so much until you forget about your own well-being.
People who are laser-focused on only productivity with no room for leisure or giving their brains a rest are easily irritable. If you find yourself taking offense to things quickly, or snapping at people for no reason, you may be in need of a break from work. Remember you have a life to live after work.
You Haven’t Seen Your Friends In a Long Time:
If you find yourself wondering when the last time you saw your friends was, then it’s probably been too long. It’s important to take time to connect with people that you care about. Without having interpersonal connections, you will start to feel empty even if you love the work that you do.
Try to see your friends or call them at least a few times a week. Chances are you’ll feel much more rejuvenated since you have someone to share your feelings with. Don’t be too busy until you have no time for your friends and relatives.
You Aren’t Sleeping Enough:
Sleep is a crucial part of being able to run functionally and focus on your tasks. Working too much can lead to poor sleep patterns, which in turn leads to poor work performance. In case you have sleepless nights, chances are that you are overworking your body system.
The harder you work trying to rectify your errors, only to find that it leads to more sleep problems. Breaking the cycle is crucial for your health and for creating quality work.
The above signs will tell you that there could be a problem between your working and social life. Take time to think about your life so as to balance all the aspects of your living.
