4 Steps You Need to Take Before You Can Pick Up Your Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana has become a hot topic among those who have chronic conditions. Though it definitely has its benefits, it’s still tightly regulated. As such, it’s important that you have an idea of what you need to do before you can pick up your medical marijuana. Luckily, a little guidance can make your first pick-up a little easier.

Get Your Medical Marijuana Prescription Card

Always start by getting your medical marijana prescription card ready. This is not only going to be necessary for making your pick-up at the dispensary, but it’s going to help you if you happen to get pulled over by the police on your way back home. Your card is going to be one of the most important pieces of paper you have with you, so don’t leave home without it.

Double-Check the Law

Next, make sure that you know the laws for carrying marijuana on your person. While your prescription card is going to give you quite a bit of leeway, there might be local rules about where you can and cannot have the product with you as well as how it must be stored on your person. Remember that taking medical marijuana across state lines is a federal crime, even if both states allow medical marijuana. While it might be unlikely that you get caught, you likely don’t want to take that risk.

Know Exactly What You Need

Did you know that different strains of marijuana can have different effects on your condition? Because of that, it’s a good idea to figure out exactly what you need from the dispensary before you go. Try to do some research on how specific strains impact your condition and how different forms of delivery can give you relief. For example, Indica is usually used for those that need help with muscle or mental relaxation, sharp pain, nausea, and insomnia. Meanwhile, Sativa is often used for those with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and similar ailments. There are also hybrid strands that mix the benefits of both Sativa and Indica.

The more you know, the faster your transaction will be. You can talk to your doctor about which would likely be best for you or if there is a certain hybrid strand or type of hybrid that they recommend. If your doctor doesn’t have a specific recommendation, you can also ask for advice at the dispensary. The employees there should have plenty of useful information.

Have a Safety Plan

Finally, make sure that you have a safety plan for getting home. How are you going to transport your prescription? How are you going to make sure that you get home safely? While it’s not likely that you’re going to have any problems, you should also try to make sure that you have a plan for how you’re going to deal with taking your first dosage as well as what to do if you feel like something has gone wrong.

A little prep work can go a long way. Make sure you have your documentation and game-plan ready before you head out to the dispensary. Doing so will make your life easier and help you to get back home to the relief that you need.
