5 Signs of an A/C Unit Failure

Suppose it’s scorching outside while your air conditioner stops working. How are you going to feel? Frustrated, annoyed, and troubled indeed. So keeping your air conditioner in the apt condition is a requirement during summers. But have you ever wondered why your air conditioner ran out or what might be the problem? There are not single but multiple problems that can cause an air conditioner to shut down. Let us look into some common problems with air conditioners that one might face:

  1. The air conditioner is not switching on: The most common problem faced by users is when their ac stops running all of a sudden. In such a situation, you must first check for thermostat batteries and see if they are dead. Another reason might be a broken circuit. You should check for the connecting wiring and see if it is broken and the sourcing electricity is intact. You shall also check for cooling setup and whether the cooling mode is on.

  1. The air conditioner is not giving cool air: Sometimes you switch on the AC and see it’s not giving cool air but regular air. The possible reasons might be dirty air filters that are freezing up your condenser unit. You shall look if you need to clean the air filter or replace it with a new one. Also, look out for vents if they are all open. You shall even look for leakage (if any) in the main refrigerating line.

  1. The air conditioner unit is frozen: Another problem commonly faced would be the ac unit getting frozen. You should then check for ice in the cabin and the leakage in the refrigerant pipe. You shall always check for airflow blockage (if any) to pass out of the unit easily. While normal functioning, warm heat needs to pass out of the system but when the ducts are blocked. You shall always check for this part of your ac unit.

  1. The frozen A/C coil: The evaporator coil in your air conditioner is filled with refrigerant and is responsible for absorbing heat from the air like a sponge absorbs water. When something goes wrong with air passage, the coil gets too cold, a layer of ice forms outside. In such a situation, you get warm air or no air coming from the air conditioner. Thus, always keep the evaporating coil clean and dust-free.

  1. Air conditioner leaking out water: To avoid costly damages or permanent run out, turn your air conditioner off if it is leaking water. You may check for a blocked-up drain line; it might be the reason for water running out. Also, when your unit is low on refrigerant or has some filthy filters, the ac unit may freeze up. In that case, after you turn it off, the ice melts, causing leakage of water. You shall then look up to cleaning the air filters or additional refrigerant to get leakage stopped. If any of this doesn’t help, you shouldn’t turn on your AC until you reach out for the issue. Reach out to a technician for the best.

Air conditioner repairs are usually expensive. Therefore, you shall always rely on good maintenance schedules and checkups to enjoy the best air conditioner performance. You shall also learn simple maintenance tips to avoid unnecessary technician visits that can usually be dealt with at home easily.
