We like to think that we’re in complete control of all of our daily actions. However, that’s not true at all. There are many times when our subconscious mind influences how we live our lives and what we do on a daily basis. These are things that you may not be aware that you do, but our subconscious minds are just too powerful to move past. You can easily start to be more aware of these actions and move towards changing them up to be more beneficial to you. Keep reading down below to learn more about the top ways that our subconscious minds affect our behavior.

  1. We Are Constantly Surrounding Ourselves with Information That Supports What We Already Think

Our subconscious naturally makes us surround ourselves with information and opinions that supports our own beliefs. This is the main reason why our Facebook and social media feeds are always full of people who we agree with and who have similar opinions to ours. This is called confirmation bias and is a big reason why we can’t make reasonable decisions most of the time. If you know that you are surrounding yourself with information that supports what you already believe, then you can make a more conscious decision to hear all sides of an argument before making a decision.

  1. We Worry Too Much About Those Things That Are Already Gone or Lost

Most of the times, our subconscious minds make us focus on those things that are already long gone or lost. Maybe we have lost an object or person in the past and we believe that somehow it or they are going to come back to us. This is a bias that our minds have and make us hope for things that will never happen.

  1. We’re not that great at betting on the odds

When it comes to our subconscious minds, humans are the worst at betting on the odds. Mind persuasion is a big thing that our subconscious minds do against us. We are always thinking that one outcome of the bet has a higher chance of happening because it might have happened in the past. For example, if we flip a coin and get heads multiple times, we might think that heads are going to be more likely than tails. However, it’s always going to be a 50/50 shot.

  1. We Think We Need Things When We Really Don’t Need Them

Our subconscious minds always try to find a rationale for buying something that we might not really need. We are always trying to find a reason to buy that new TV or those new clothes, even though there might not be a real reason to do so. That means that you’re going to waste your money on things that cost way too much for your budget.

  1. We Think That Our Memories Are More True Than Real Facts

Because of our subjective unconscious minds, we are more likely to take our memories more seriously than actual facts. However, our memories are fallible and definitely not true 100% of the time. We are always changing our memories to fit what we want to believe, rather than looking at the rational facts.

  1. We Are Much More In-Tune with Stereotypes on A Daily Basis Than We Would Like to Admit

We are born into a world full of stereotypes. And as we grow up, we start to learn about those stereotypes and they become part of our subconscious minds. And that means that we are much more likely to buy into those stereotypes, even if we think of ourselves as rationale and accepting people. You are more likely to be able to get rid of those stereotypes if you know that you can fall for them once in a while.

There you have it! These are the top ways that our subconscious minds affect our behaviors in ways that we might not even imagine.
