Unlike in other parts of the world, in the UK, guns are tightly controlled but this should not deter you if you are interested in hunting or shooting as a hobby. There are plenty of gun clubs that welcome novices and provide the proper training as well as the use of the facilities for a nominal charge, so it does not have to cost the Earth either. An excellent place to start is the British Association for Shooting and Conservation website which has a wealth of information looking to take up shooting or hunting. You will also need to dress the part, so here is the lowdown on what clothes you will need to wear.
What To Wear On Your Head
You often find that people will go hunting no matter what the weather, so you may wish to consider purchasing a hat. Traditionally, people wear a flat cap which is usually tweed, but you can wear whatever you are comfortable with such as a woollen hat or even a baseball cap. Also, make sure that you have a good set of ear defenders to protect your ears when shooting guns.
Keeping Your Feet Warm
You will want to ensure that you have a nice thick pair of woollen socks for when you are hunting in the colder months. It is also important that you have a sturdy pair of boots that are waterproof to keep your feet dry. There is no need in having good socks on if your feet get wet! You can use your favourite search engine and type “shooting clothing” + your location. For example, if you happen to live in the UK, you can type in “shooting clothing UK” into it, and you will see a variety of different clothing retailers selling good quality socks and other clothing.
A Nice Pair Of Trousers
If you are going to attend a formal shoot, then you will most likely need to get a pair of tweed trousers; but on less formal shoots, you can also wear moleskin trousers. If you are attending shoots in the winter months, then make sure that you get a heavier set to keep your legs warm.
A Matching Waistcoat
You will often find that on formal shoots, people will dress in matching three-piece suits, usually of tweed, so you will need to make sure that you have a waistcoat for the occasion. That is if you do not decide to go for a matching three-piece suit like most other people.
A Warm Set Of Gloves
You will also need a warm set of gloves that still leave you with a lot of dexterity for when you are outside during the colder times of the year when you go hunting. It is a good idea to have a waterproof set of gloves that are fur lined, and you may also wish t have a scarf for when it is cold.
A Good Quality Shooting Jacket
One of the last essentials that you will need when taking up hunting or shooting as a hobby is a good quality shooting jacket. You will want a warm jacket that also allows you plenty of movement of your arms, and preferably a couple of deep pockets in which you can keep some cartridges. You may also wish to purchase a bag to make sure that you can carry plenty of extra cartridges with you.
Take note of all these points whenever you are purchasing hunting or shooting clothing.
