I love my home, but I wish I had more space. My home is by no means a tiny little shed where my family and I are on top of each other all of the time. It just lacks that extra bit of space that would make all of the difference. I have to come to realise that we all wish we had more space – even the millionaires who live in big mansions are not satisfied. So, I’ve decided to share some of my tips and tricks for creating space. Hopefully, you will start to see the difference very soon.
Hire A Contractor
My philosophy is if you are going to do something, make sure you do it right. I think we can all agree that is a good way to live our lives! For that reason, my first option is to hire a professional for the job. Why would I attempt to make a difference when I have no real experience? I am, to all extents and purposes, not an expert whereas a home additions contractor deals with space issues on a daily basis. If anyone can make your home bigger, it is the specialists.
Get Rid Of Junk
How much of your home is junk? I only ask because it amazes me how many homeowners don’t need any of the items in their house. They have no sentimental value or decorative value, but they still exist. Take a look around and be totally honest with yourself. The worst offenders are the items that you used to need, but that you no longer need anymore. What I like to do is to be ruthless! I pick something up, and if I can’t find a use for it, I throw it away. Alternatively, you can put it in storage, just get it out of sight!
Clean Up Clutter
For every homeowner with a small property, it has to be in tip-top condition. I am talking like Cinderella herself has been around with a fine tooth-comb. When you very little space to begin with, you have to maximise it as much as possible. Clutter, however, takes up space, so you cannot use it for anything else. Plus, from a personal point of view, it is lazy. All you need to do is make sure that everything in your house has a home. Then, put it all back in its rightful place and clutter will seek to exist.
Find Extra Storage
It is important to find storage wherever possible. One of the best tips is to make your décor and fittings more functional. For example, you can install a bathroom cabinet that also acts as a mirror. That way, you can add a mirror and a cabinet to the bathroom in one easy installation. The same goes for cabinets and coffee tables in the living room and the kitchen. Or, if you are lucky to have a garage or an attic or basement, you can move all your unwanted goods into that space.
Space is at a premium nowadays, so you have to find it wherever possible.
