Whatever your change management approach, is it worth considering bringing in other methods to help make change more comfortable?

Approaching change from all angles – how a hybrid approach can help

The world of business is continually changing, and organisations need to be able to approach these changes if they don’t want to be left behind. Whatever type of change management approach you prescribe to it is important to be adaptable so that where necessary you can approach change from any angle. Communication training courses are increasingly finding that the hybrid approach is proving very popular in the workplace.

What is the hybrid approach?

The hybrid approach refers to one where the more traditional planned methods that many organisations currently use are combined with the more flexible approach that is offered by the methodology of Agile. There are pros and cons to both methods and a hybrid approach offers a very good alternative that combines the best elements of both to create something that works really well in a number of scenarios.

How can the hybrid approach help?

Many organisations work in an environment that use planned methods and have done for a long time. However, over time these more traditional methods have evolved, and they now have a greater need for compliance with required standards and broad obligations.

Times are changing and with continual updates to things like the software that we use methods need to as well. The role that software plays is increasingly important when it in hardware products and therefore Agile methods which have their more iterative processes and can move objectives from one sprint to the next have become an increasingly popular choice. Taking some parts of a more traditional method and combining them with certain elements of the Agile methodology, for example scrum, allows organisations to take advantage of the best that both methods have to offer creating a solution that is completely suited to the needs at hand.

This combination, or hybrid, allows the organisation to reach their goals significantly faster, achieve better results and all whilst minimising the expenses associated with a project. All of this allows an organisation to begin running their project with a good plan in place that they can follow but gives them the flexibility to change that plan as soon as they encounter an issue. These might be things that would cause them greater financial costs or account for significant loss of time.

Both of these are things that any project could well do without, especially if it has been costed up very carefully with very little room to manoeuvre. Adopting a flexible approach means that any obstacles are easier to deal with as there are more options available.

Becoming more flexible

Any organisation that currently does not yet take a more flexible approach should consider Agile certification. Being open to the flexibility offered by a hybrid approach is very important for any organisation who are looking to keep ahead of their competitors in the fast paced market place where things are constantly changing, and no one can afford to fall behind where they will risk losing out.
