Baby Proof Your Home To Create A Comfortable and Safe Environment

When you bring your beautiful baby home from the hospital you often think about all the snuggle time and the sleepless nights. Newborns spark a new light in parents and they want their home to be a clean and safe environment to raise their new baby in. Babies that are not mobile are easy to keep safe. You can lay out a play mat for them on the ground to play on and practice tummy time on a tummy time blanket. You can wipe their high chair clean and sanitize all dishes and bottles easily. Once your baby is on the move then the baby proofing becomes a bit trickier.

When Do You Need To Consider Baby Proofing?

With the help of some handy baby raising books and your pediatrician you will be able to gauge when your baby will most likely be on the move. Typically around six month to one year mark your baby will begin crawling. All children advance at different ages so do not feel worried if your baby takes a little more time. Trust the expertise of your trusted pediatrician. With this in mind you should have some necessary baby proofing items around the 3 to 4 month mark. Parenting can become hectic and sometimes days seem to blur together. It is better to have the necessary items before you need them then to realize you need them a bit too late and need to rush out and purchase them.

What Are Some Baby Proofing Items To Consider?

A baby play yard or pack and play will help contain your little one while you may need to be hands free. Baby gates are also very helpful for keeping babies safely contained and away from dangerous stairs that they do not know how to climb. Light socket plugs will keep their fingers safe and door stoppers will prevent them from smashing their little fingers. If you walk down a safety aisle at your local baby needs store you will see a large variety of safety items to make your home secure. There are also cabinet locks, stove knob covers and garbage can locks for your kitchen that will keep little ones safe when they enter your kitchen.

What Rooms Should You Baby Proof and How?

Kitchens, Bathrooms and rooms with stairway access should be the first rooms that you baby proof. Small kitchen design changes can also make your kitchen a safer space that is also more comfortable for you. You can have cabinets installed that are slow close. This will prevent you from worrying about smashed fingers. These are more appealing than cabinet safety locks. You can also have stove knob covers placed on your range to prevent children from accidentally turning on the cook top. Bathrooms should be secured with slow close toilet lids and you can have the water temperature adjusted so you do not need to worry about your baby turning on extremely hot water in the sink or bathtub.

Once you make these changes to your home you will feel a bit more comfortable about letting your little one have some freedom to explore. Parents always watch over their children and want to prevent any harm from coming to them. Providing a safe environment at home gives them a comfortable and safe environment.
