The easy but expensive way to fight stress and unwind is to go to a spa regularly and get totally pampered. On the other hand, the more permanent, sustainable and fun way to do so is to create spa-like place in your own home. More precisely, it is all about redecorating the bathroom so that it has all the things a good spa has.
Appearance
Get everything you hate about your bathroom out of your bathroom. And then some more! Clutter is really something that doesn’t help de-stressing and you won’t see any spa that is crowded. Clean, smooth and minimalistic surfaces are more likely to happen in a spa. Color the walls and the vanity cabinets in a color that you find pleasant to look at and relaxing. Invest in some fancy and beautiful toiletries and see what you can do about those tiles that you don’t really like that much anymore. Get playful with textiles around the bathroom as curtains, drapes and other similar things will make it look more sophisticated.
Atmosphere
This is best achieved with lights, sound and scent. Lights are best if they are peripheral and not too bright. The only place in your bathroom where you need strong light is around the mirror. All others should be mellow and warm. If that is not possible, at least install a dimmer. You can achieve soft and smooth feeling using candles and the like. Scented sticks and candles will make that feeling complete. As for the sound, if you don’t want or don’t have the means to have music there, think about some dream catchers or other ornaments that produce natural sounds like clacking of the wood and the like.
Treatments
A very big part of the spa are the treatments. You don’t have to go to the spa to have them, as many products can be found in specialized shops or even ordinary supermarkets. However, all those lovely body scrubs, wraps, facial treatments, nail nourishing treatments and other amazing things can be made at home using fresh ingredients that you have around your house. Internet is full of recipes and they need just a little research.
Work Needed
If you are all set to do a major remodeling of the bathroom, you need to make sure that you are up for the job. For example, if you are all set to remove all the tiles or to install toiletries that need to be moved to a slightly different place, then you will need the help of the plumber. DIY is fun, but some things are best left to the professionals: especially those involving plumbing and/or electricity.
Perhaps this will not be the fancy spa with expensive equipment and masseuse that does amazing massage, but it will be a perfect place to unwind and get that much needed ‘first aid’ of stress-free environment that you need after a long day at work. The best part is, it doesn’t need to be expensive to be good.
