Bye Bye Summer! Getting Your Home Ready For The Fall

Summer is such a fun time of year, but it can’t last forever. Before long the nights start drawing in, and there’s a distinct chill in the air again. The change of season can be exciting- the colorful leaves, fashion and cozy nights in front of the fire that fall brings. But it’s important that your home is ready for the upcoming colder weather. Here are some things to take into consideration when preparing your home for the season ahead.

Make Sure Your Heating System Is Up To Scratch

Chances are you haven’t used your heating system much, if at all over the last few months. Don’t wait until the weather changes to test it. Make sure everything is fully working. Check things like your radiators (which may need bleeding) and ensure that all areas of your home are being sufficiently heated. If anything doesn’t seem right, you might have to have it looked at by an engineer, or even go for a complete refit if it’s not up to standard. There are lots of things to think about when upgrading your furnace or heating system. So make sure you do your research to find out the cost, and amount of work that’s involved.

Change Duvets To a Higher Tog Rating

The change of season means time to switch out those light summer duvets for something more toasty and warm. Anything above nine togs should be okay for fall and mild winters, but a 13.5 tog plus will provide the ultimate warmth. If you wanted to go with a slightly lower tog duvet, you could always add throws and a heated blanket for added warmth as the weather cools down further for the rest of the year.

Change Your Home Fragrances

Out go the light, sweet, fresh and fruity scents of summer. In come the spicy, warm and cozy scents of fall. Switch out things like scented candles, reed diffusers and plug in air fresheners. This will give your home a nice ambiance. And let’s face it, is there anything nicer than flickering candles in the evening when it’s chilly outside?!

Change Out Decorative Pieces

You can bring a real air of fall festivity into your home with just a few changes. Switching out things like cushion covers to warm autumnal shades, adding more cozy throws to chairs and sofas. You could even add decorative pieces such as a wreath made from autumn leaves (either faux or real) to your front door. If you’re particularly crafty, you could make this yourself along with some other seasonal decorative accessories. Updating certain things in the home can also make for a much more cozy fall. For example, you could invest in some big fluffy towels to keep you extra warm after a bath. Along with some pampering bath products in seasonal scents for those inevitable long soaks in the tub on chilly fall nights.

What kinds of things do you do to get your home ready for the fall? Have you started thinking about the change of season yet?
