Feeling Down In The Dumps? These Simple Tips Might Help!

Feeling down in the dumps? Maybe you have had some bad news, experienced a disappointment or are going through a heartache. We all feel down at times, and sometimes spending a bit of time having a pity party and feeling sorry for yourself is just what you need. But when you’re ready to get back out there and start feeling better again, here are a few things you could try!

Do Some Exercise

It might seem like the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling down. But if you push yourself to get up and do some exercise you will thank yourself for it. Exercise releases endorphins or ‘happy chemicals’ into the brain which make you feel better. Also, the act of just getting up and doing something may well cheer you up a bit.

Treat Yourself To Some Fresh Flowers

There’s a reason we give people flowers to say ‘thank you’ ‘congratulations’ or ‘get well soon.’ Flowers are mood boosters and make us feel better. And so if you’re feeling down in the dumps, treating yourself to a pretty bouquet of blooms might just cheer you up. They’ll brighten your mood as well as your room. An online search of ‘florist near me’ or something similar will show you where you can purchase them from.

Talk To a Friend

A problem shared is a problem halved, talking it all out with someone else may well give you a new perspective. If you have a tendency to bottle things up, have a chat with your nearest and dearest. ‘Talking therapy’ is a well-recognized treatment in dealing with stressful or emotional situations. If you have a good friend or family member willing to lend an ear or be a shoulder to cry on, take them up on it!

Get Organized

An untidy home reflects and untidy mind. If you’ve been feeling depressed or down for a while, then your usual levels of tidiness may have slipped. Cleaning up, removing clutter and getting organized can invoke a sense of wellbeing. Without distractions in your environment, you’re free to move forward. You can then get on with whatever you need to do in order to feel better.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Tiredness will make any problem seem worse. If you’re already feeling down or emotional, then it’s certainly not going to help matters. Spend an evening relaxing, take a pampering bath can help and wind down early to give you plenty of time to rest. Avoid caffeine (which can affect you for up to sixteen hours) and do your best to get a full night of uninterrupted sleep. You’re sure to feel so much better afterward.

Arrange to do something fun

Give yourself something to look forward to, and then go and do something you enjoy. It could be a meal out with friends, a day trip or even a holiday. Treating yourself to something fun is a surefire way to pick up your mood, which is exactly what you need when you’ve been down in the dumps.
