No matter what time of the year it is it can do you a great deal of good to spend some time outside. Even when the winter weather hits there are things that you can do outside to get closer to nature, have fun, and maybe even find a little stress relief.
If you spend too much time working, or too much time indoors, you just might start to suffer from cabin fever. Getting out not only helps fight that, but some time in the sun can do your health some good as well.
Take A Walk, Jog, Or Hike
Not only does time outside help your body get some much needed vitamin D from the sunlight, but it also helps you feel a little more freedom. Some of the easiest ways to get some time outside are to go for a walk or jog. You can do it through town, or find a great hiking trail.
If it’s winter, hiking in the snow can be fun, but maybe you’ll want to do some snowshoeing or cross country skiing. Not only do these things get you out of the house, but you will also get some great exercise, which can help lift your mood to combat the winter blues.
Go For A Bike Ride
Taking a bike ride is also a great way to get outside, and get some exercise. It’s also important to take safety precautions when you head out on your bike. Helmets may not be fashionable, but they can save your life.
Visit A Park Or The Zoo
If your town doesn’t have any hiking paths or bike paths, maybe a visit to the park can be a fun way to get outside. Pack a picnic, swing on the swings, or just relax at the picnic table and read a book. If your park has a lake or stream, fishing can be fun and relaxing too.
A day at the zoo can be fun, and it’s a great place to get in a good walk. If you don’t like walking in your town because the view is boring you’ll find the zoo is never boring and has plenty of great views! Plus, it’s always fun to mix in a little education with your entertainment. You might learn some things about animals that you didn’t already know.
Plant A Garden Or Build A Snowman
If it’s spring, plant a garden. Getting outside and planting flowers or even vegetables can be fun, and when they sprout it can also be very rewarding. If you plant edible things you’ll also give yourself a great reward when it’s time to pick your vegetables.
If it’s winter and snow is already on the ground you can still get outside and create something rewarding, like a snow angel or a snowman. It doesn’t matter how old you are, having fun in the snow is relaxing and it will make you feel young again!
