Steam has a massive collection of free-to-play games, and we love the platform for it. But when you have so many titles to choose from, how do you know which one is good and which is not? There are the more famous ones like DOTA 2 and Team Fortress 2, but today we look at lesser-known yet equally fun games that are totally free on Steam.
Gigantic
Destiny is a name for Gigantic, a game described on Steam as a third-person strategic shooter with a hero, fast and fluid with MOBA here. And indeed, it is a good way to tell this very popular title with engaging graphics whose purpose is to fight against giant guardians (one per team) using team strategy and quick reasoning. In a five-on-five challenge and with action-packed gameplay, this game is free, but with some in-app purchases that aren’t that essential. Or, better said, they can at most slightly speed up the timing to get the summoned creatures and used throughout the game.
Fishing Planet
Why break everything, kill hundreds of enemies, or conquer worlds when you can hang out on a lake or river bank for a bit of fishing? To demonstrate that this discipline never goes out of fashion, not even digitally, among the best free games on Steam is very popular Fishing Planet, which carefully recreates the twelve locations, offers seventy-two species of fish to catch, provides countless baits, and reproduces with realism the mechanics and the application of the laws of physics. The goodies are the changing weather, seasonal and light conditions, and a bit of multiplayer with online tournaments and global leaderboards.
Iron Snout
An immediate plot where you become a pig that has to defend itself from a horde of hungry wolves, imaginative in transfers even if not really intelligent. The game mode is easy to learn as there are no horizontal movements, but you will have to be very fast in the endless battles. This is Iron Snout, with graphics that will blow you away as it almost looks like a toy for children when on the contrary, it is a splatter triumph. You will have to kill predators by robbing them with kung-fu moves of their own weapons, including swords, axes, and even chainsaws. And in extreme cases, you can also use throwing their lifeless bodies (or parts of their mutilated bodies) at them. Want an even more trashy fighting game? In Brief Karate Foolish, you will make old men or out-of-shape men wrestle in towels with horrible graphics.
SoulWorker
Another highly recommended title among the best free games on Steam is undoubtedly SoulWorker, both for the anime style with manga animation and for the game modes that are varied and engaging. From the first glance, you enter the dynamic and very fast atmosphere with throngs of enemies and the adrenaline that will flow freely to have more and more ready reflexes and make decisions on the fly. Cel-shaded graphics make it even more compelling.
Path of Exile
Of all the other games on the list, Path of Exile might be the most famous one. Its name may come across your computer screen if you have searched for role-playing games. Compared to other famous RPGs like World of Warcraft or Skyrim, you might have ignored this game. But it’s time you change that, for Path of Exile is filled with action and has a great storyline. It takes you deep into the dark fantasy continent of Wraeclast, where you can hunt monsters and do quests like a true role player. The game lets you choose one character class out of seven, and you get to make them more powerful by adding gems and items like chaos orb or exalted orb as the game progresses. The game also has a great economy system that lets you buy and sell these items and gems to vendors or other players.
