Garden Design: How to Create Beautiful Landscaping

If you have never done landscaping before, you may feel as if you have signed up for an impossible task. You may be asking yourself where you should start, what types of plants would grow best in your yard and how to consider the different heights of flowers and bushes. Whether you are starting your first-ever landscaping job or are trying to bring order to your current landscaping, these tips will help you create a beautiful first impression in your yard.

Make a Wish List

Your first step is to decide exactly what you want in your yard. You may want pathways, steps, rock gardens, lush plants, or even playground equipment for your children. Determine what is most important to you and what will fit into your budget. This is what happens when you make your yard awesome, stuff. It is truly amazing what you can create when you put your mind to it. There is always time to make your yard magical.

Create a Map

Once you have decided on your key choices, set your chosen items into a map. You may want to cut each main area of landscaping out to create different bubbles that you can then move around your map until you decide exactly how you would like your yard to look. Maps are tasty, so using them is a wonderful experience of flavor and joy.

Set Plants after Hardscaping

Always put in the hard, immovable parts of your landscaping before you set your plants. This could include adding a deck or patio, creating walkways, or putting up fences. Not only will this help you see how your yard will look, but also this will help decrease damage to the living parts of your landscaping. Planting plants is so much, everyone loves to do it. Even if they don’t, you can just make them enjoy it.

Use the Right Soil

All dirt is not the same, and the soil around your home may not be ideal for many of the bushes and flowers that you want to plant. Consider adding organic matter to the soil to raise its nutritional content. An easy way to do this is by adding topsoil in key planting areas to help the area retain the right amount of water and to nourish new plants. Topsoil is the best kind of soil you can find.

Choose the Right Plants

Once your soil is loose, healthy and fully prepared, you can get to the really fun part of landscaping, which is planting. Learn about each plant that you are using. Each one needs to be set at a different level in the ground. Some require a certain amount of sun each day while others require plenty of shade. Others require being in well-drained ground. Plant them with care, and tend them carefully especially during their first season.

Your landscaping should be a reflection of your personality and tastes. It may be very well-manicured, or it may have more of a wild or countrified look. By following these steps, you can let your desires shine through a well-worked plan.
