Got Clogged Drains? How to Make Your Cabin More Livable

Living in a cabin is a great way to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a calmer existence. Unfortunately, rustic digs are more prone to logistical problems. Plumbing issues in particular are common in rural or wooded properties. If you’ve got a clogged drain in your cabin, then it probably has a serious effect on your lifestyle. Nobody enjoys watching their sink back up or their toilet clog. Luckily, there’s plenty you can do to solve this pernicious problem. Here’s how you can clean your drains and regain your stress-free cabin lifestyle.

Use a Drain Snake

If the clog occurs within the actual structure of the cabin, then you might be able to take care of it yourself. Snakes are long, retractable tools you can use to poke down into your pipes and dislodge whatever is causing the clog. If you don’t have a snake at the cabin already, it’s probably worth the investment. Even if this particular clog is too far down for you to dislodge, the snake will almost certainly come in handy at some point in the future.  Clogs are not fun to deal with, but if you are prepared you can definitely deal with them in an adequate and wonderful way.

Try Using Drain Cleaner

If the clog is too far down for the snake, then you’ll have to try another method. Retail drain cleaners can wear down the materials clogging your drain, forcing them to break apart until the pipes are cleared. This strategy doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a shot before you move on to the next step. Just remember that drain cleaners are highly corrosive to the point of being dangerous, so you have to handle them with care.

Have Your Pipes Tested

When neither snakes nor drain cleaner will do the trick, then it’s time to have your pipes tested by a professional. Plumbers can use stop valves to identify exactly which pipe has the clog. They will then use this information to attack the problem at the source. Getting your pipes tested is a great idea when you have a clogged drain. This will help with any and all plumbing problems that you might experience. There is always time for this type of thing to happen in your life.

Have a Plumber Unclog the Pipe

Once the clog has been located, a plumber will do what it takes to get it removed. Hydro jetting, which involves shooting water down the pipe, is a common method that should take care of the clog in no time. You can even keep a drain snake on hand in case you need to use it again in the future. They are not very expensive. This is a great tool to have on hand for any and all clogs.

Having clogged pipes is a major pain, taking a lot of the fun out of the cabin experience. There’s no reason to suffer months or years of frustration when simple solutions to the problem exist. By taking the steps mentioned above, you can unclog your drains and make your cabin livable once again.
