Health Symptoms That You Should Not Ignore

Your health is one of the most important aspects of your life. When your body has symptoms, it is alerting you that something is wrong. This is why you should not ignore serious symptoms. Some medical problems can lie dormant in your body for long, and the moment they show symptoms, it may indicate that your life is in danger. It is always better to listen to what your body says, and the moment you notice anything out of the ordinary, you can take action as soon as possible. Here are some health symptoms you should never ignore.

Chest Pain

Your chest hosts several vital organs, so you should not lightly feel any pain in your chest. If you start feeling some pressure, heaviness, or discomfort in your chest, you are on the verge of a heart attack. If these conditions are accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, and nausea, you can alert someone to drive you to the hospital immediately. In women, other additional symptoms can be upper abdominal pain or a burning sensation accompanied by fatigue. Not all chest pains result in heart attacks. Maybe one of your internal organs has been injured or is infected. It will be upon the doctor to determine and treat the cause of the pain.

Sudden or Extreme Headache

Whenever you experience an acute headache that peaks within seconds or minutes, it may mean that your blood vessels have ruptured. An aneurysm occurs when the blood vessels in your brain suddenly burst. Aneurysms can be caused by heredity, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, trauma, or abnormal blood flow where arteries meet. Unfortunately, Aneurysm will show no symptoms until the blood vessels rupture. So, whenever you experience a sudden extreme headache, let your doctor check you as soon as possible. It may not be an aneurysm case, but that is the duty of your doctor to find out.

Unusual Bleeding

Bleeding is normal, especially if you get an injury. Even so, it should stop after some time, depending on the extent of the injury. When your bleeding is unusually taking longer, it may mean you have some underlying medical problem. Also, bleeding that starts with no injury is not a good sign. It may mean you have colon cancer or ulcers. Vaginal bleeding is associated with gynecologic cancers. And if you notice any blood in your vomit, it may mean you are suffering from esophageal or stomach cancer. Blood in your urine is a sign of kidney or bladder infection, while blood in your stool may indicate hemorrhoids. Whatever the case, any form of abnormal or excessive bleeding should not be taken lightly.

TMJ

If you are experiencing popping jaw joints, pain in the jaw, or difficulty in chewing, you should consider seeking medical attention. Professionals who identify and treat TMJ symptoms in Raleigh NC state that when this problem goes untreated, “then the pain is going to spread out to other areas of the body which are connected to those which are surrounding the temporomandibular joint.” If you do not treat these symptoms within a reasonable time, they tend to get worse and cause other negative symptoms. This is why it is important to find the source of the pain and get necessary treatment as soon as possible.

Sudden Weight Loss

If you’ve not changed your lifestyle, sudden weight loss can ring an alarm bell. A weight loss of 5% within six months with no change of lifestyle may signify an underlying medical condition. For older people, it may mean that they have cancers. For the rest of the age groups, weight loss may be a result of endocrine disorders and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Other accompanying symptoms of this condition include difficulty concentrating, increased appetite, sweating, and restlessness. Other causes of weight loss are psychiatric conditions such as anxiety and depression. So, if you notice your weight dropping drastically, have your doctor check you out.

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath is a very uncomfortable symptom because you need constant air in your body. If you don’t get help in enough time, you may pass out from lack of oxygen. Shortness of breath is usually associated with embolism or lung problems. When you notice this symptom, check yourself in the nearest hospital to get checked out.

Persistent or High Fever

A fever is a sign that your body is fighting some infection. It may be a sign of meningitis, endocarditis, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, or any other infection. An infection may also cause pain around your ear. Keep a watchful eye on how high your fever gets. Anything over 103 Fahrenheit can be dangerous because it can damage your brain. If you have a persistently high fever, be sure to get a doctor’s opinion immediately.

There are many other symptoms you can keep on the lookout for. For example, a sudden confusion, swelling of the legs, or abdominal pains shouldn’t be taken lightly. It will help if you have medical checkups regularly so that these medical conditions can be detected and dealt with early enough.
