Creating more space in your home seems to be something many of us struggle with. If you have kids, space is precious. So, I came up with these techniques to create more space in my home. See what you think of them, and try to apply them to your home.

Extension

When it comes to creating extra space in the home, an extension is one of the best things you can do. It helps make the home more attractive to buyers, as well as adding space and value. This not only creates space but also adds value and practicality to the home. When I assessed the space in my property, I made a decision to extend. Thinking about all the options open to me, I decided on a conservatory. And it was definitely the right decision because it’s made my property so much bigger.

Home Storage

One of the best ways to create more space in the home is to take a look at your home storage facilities. Now, it may well be a case of rearranging the storage situation at home. Even just taking the time to do this can free up a lot more space in the home. You might also consider introducing additional storage facilities, which is what I did. For instance, I made sure I got furniture that opens to allow you to store things inside. And you can get special cupboards and drawers that improve space and fit more items.

Self-Storage

There might be some stuff you have at home that you don’t want to get rid of. But you may simply not have space for it in the house. This was the case for me, so I decided to look at self-storage options. It was a great way to keep hold of valuable and sentimental possessions. And it means they are out of the home. So you save space by clearing things out of the home. But at the same time you get to keep them. Make sure you check out self-storage options in your local area.

Feng Shui

You’ll be surprised by how effective it can be to just rearrange furniture. Feng Shui is steeped in centuries of history. And even if you don’t believe it in, the practical elements still apply. By rearranging furniture, I made my living room and bedroom much larger. It doesn’t take that much effort, and it’s something you can do on a regular basis. Feng Shui is a fantastic way of getting the best possible layout for a room.

Renovate

A fantastic way to create more space is to combine it with home improvements. No doubt there are some renovation projects you’re going to want to do at home. Well, why not use these projects to create a little more space? We’ve already looked at how an extension can create a lot more room. Something else I found very useful was going for an open plan design for my kitchen and living room. Beforehand I had a regular kitchen, and it always felt cramped and uncomfortable. So I changed to an open plan, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. There so much more room and the home is now more practical.

Space in and around the home is so important. Nobody wants to live in cramped surroundings. And if you have kids it’s even more important to have freedom and space. My house used to be cramped and cluttered, and we were forever falling over one another. But by making use of these ideas I was able to create much more space. And now my home life is vastly more appealing, not to mention comfortable!
