How to Design Your Home Office for Optimal Productivity While Working

You may have recently become part of the lucky work-from-home crowd. If so, you’ve probably found out that being productive in your pajamas is not as easy as it seems. Don’t worry! There are lots of ways to boost your at-home work productivity, from streamlining your living space arrangements to upgrading your internet service provider. Here are a few tips and tricks for getting things done even when nobody’s watching.

Rearrange Your Work Space

It’s important that your work space is separate from the rest of your home, even if that just means throwing up a separator between your office chair and your bed. If you can clinch an entire room to call your office, you’re doing well to begin with. Make sure that there are no additional distractions to keep you from getting your boots on the ground where your work is concerned. Ensure that anything that would ordinarily stay at home away from the office does so in your home workspace as well. Invest in a comfortable and supportive work chair too. You don’t want to feel like you’re slouching while working. The right desk and chair set up will help you focus throughout the day.

Set Rules and Boundaries With the Rest of Your Household

This tip is a little trickier, but consistency is key in making it work. Ensure that other members of the household understand that your work space is off limits when work is in progress. Remind them every time they knock on the door that you are unavailable, especially if you are in the middle of an important communication with your business partners. Setting rules from the beginning and following through with them consistently is crucial. You can also designate certain areas of your home for a “meet up” spot. For example, the kitchen is a good spot for you and other members in your household to socialize during your work day.

Consider Upgrading Your Internet Service

A faster internet connection means things get done more quickly, period. Internet providers are often willing to work with your budget and your particular needs to get you exactly the kind of service you need. Often, it just boils down this: bigger is better as bandwidth limits and speeds go. Check with your internet provider to see what types of packages they offer and if you are able to upgrade your current service.

Remember to Take Breaks

It’s really important not to overwork yourself. Stress is the biggest killer out there, so guard yourself accordingly. Make sure that you have a space to get some exercise, get comfortable, and even consider getting something nice to look at besides your computer screen. Take short breaks throughout the day to stop looking at your computer screen. Here are a few additional tips to keep you from going insane.

Surprisingly, there can be a lot of new stress when working from your home rather than a traditional office space. But armed with the tips above, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish from your own home. Utilize some tips to help you remain productive while you’re not in the office.
