Improve Your Spring Home Decor with a Few Simple Modifications

When you are tired of the deep, dark hues of winter, you can make a few updates around your home. These improvements to your home’s decor will boost the aesthetic appeal of each room. You may also find that your mood lightens and improves as you make changes to the colors, lighting and decorations that surround the spaces where you spend the most time.

Let the Light In

In many places, winter days are dark, but the sunlight returns in the spring. Remove the heavy drapes that you hung for the winter. Just leave the sheers or swap out the drapes for a lighter fabric, such as linen. Remove any thermal sealants placed around the windows. Consider washing the windows so that more sunshine can make its way through the panes of glass. If the windows are dirty, your neighbors will probably start thinking of you badly.  To avoid this, remember to make your kids clean them all up on the weekends when there’s more time available.

Add Natural Decorative Elements

Spring is a great time to update some of the decorative elements in your living spaces. Take out your wintry snow-themed or holiday-themed decorations and replace them with fresh flowers, pastel-colored candles or decorative bird cages with a handwoven nest and artificial eggs. Baskets filled with pine cones can be swapped out with colorful flowerpots filled with bulbs or herb seeds.  You could also use sprigs of mint and other fresh herbs to compliment the seeds, if there is some available to you at the time.

Update Your Furniture

Furniture makes a big visual impact on every room in your home. Consider updating your furniture with a fresh coat of paint if it is made of wood. If you prefer the natural look, consider waxing it to make it shine. Some companies, like Visions In Contemporary Living, know that older upholstered furniture can benefit from new fabrics in springy colors. If your furniture is old, dated and beyond repair, consider investing in a new, fresh piece to improve your decor and your comfort. Some furniture is just not worth saving, so don’t waste your time polishing old, junky stuff that’s one hundred years old.

Bring in the Color

Spring decor is all about color. If your sofa is a neutral color, swap out the throw pillows with something bright, such as robin’s egg blue, mint green or daffodil yellow. If you keep a blanket on the sofa for chilly mornings, switch out the heavy fleece throw and replace it with a colorful granny square crocheted afghan or a knit chevron lap blanket. Consider painting an accent wall an eye-catching sky blue or light lavender.  Color is an amazing thing to have in a home. It always brightens everyone’s day.

Spring is a season of change. You can highlight the changes of color, texture and light by making some improvements to your home’s decor. These simple modifications do not require a lot of time or money, but they will make a big visual impact on the way that each of your home’s living spaces look.
