Is Hair Transplant Successful? A True Story

My name is Prakash (name changed) and this is the story of my struggle with hair loss and finally deciding to opt for FUT- hair transplant procedure. I work in the event management business in Mumbai and I always have to meet new clients and look presentable. But due to my hair loss, I lost my confidence and had very low self Esteem.

My hair loss started around 2001 when I was 20-21 years of age. Back then, I had luscious hair. It started with a little bit thinning of hair and whenever I used to comb, a bunch of hair used to get stuck in it. At first, I didn’t pay much attention to it thinking it was happening due to natural cause.

When I got to 24-25 age, the condition of my hair had gotten awful. First I thought that the reason behind my receding hair was due to stress. So I started doing yoga, taking vitamins and a healthy diet. For a year or two, the condition of my hair improved. I was happy about it. But this result was momentary.

After a few years, hair thinning became started happening at a rapid speed. So I started exploring the internet to gain knowledge about hair transplants, and I found about ClinicSpots which gave me all the information about hair transplant in Mumbai and its techniques, clinics and specialists.

To be honest, at first I was skeptical about the whole hair transplant process. Because I had seen people who had done hair transplant surgery and although it didn’t look entirely fake it did not look 100% natural either.

So after quite an extensive research about hair clinics, I finally decided it was high time and booked an appointment with a top hair transplant surgeon in Mumbai who had many years of practice and expertise. At the first meeting with the surgeon, I had many questions about the whole procedure. I explained to the surgeon my concerns and cleared my every doubt. He assured me that he will take care of everything and I do not have to worry about it anymore. This really made me happy and calm because I’ve been depressed about my hair situation for the past couple of years. The way the surgeon was answering my questions, I knew that he was a subject matter expert and that I had come to the right place for my procedure. I choose Mumbai as my location because the hair transplant cost in Mumbai was affordable . The surgeon decided to go with the FUT hair technique as it was best suitable for me.

On the day of the surgery, in 2008 I was really stoked for it. Finally, the thing which has kept haunting me for the past couple of years was going to end. Even though I knew for the hair to grow back it would take months but still, I was excited about it. The staff and the clinic were very good and helpful to me. Then I was given some anesthetic for stress purpose. The operation went on for about 12 hours with few breaks. The total number of hair grafted was 3100. The surgery was completed successfully.

After the surgery, I had to wait for my new hair to grow back as it takes at least 3-4 months before the new hair would come through.

During the first five days of FUT surgery, there was some swelling, redness visible on my forehead. But this discomfort in the donor area can be treated with some painkillers and slowly it disappeared. I was told by the surgeon to not touch my grafts during the first five days.

From the sixth day, I was able to wash and moisturize my hair. After 10 days I was able to wash my hair normally and return back to work. The stitches that were done on the donor area of my scalp are removed after 10-14 days. At the end of the first month, my hair started to fall from my head which was part of the procedure.

Between the time period 2-4 months, there are not many changes visible in your head region. I started to see some new hair only. After the fourth month, the hair started to grow at a very rapid speed. They also start getting thick and stronger. This process goes on for the next 2-3 months. As the months go by, my hair got thick, more mature. I felt like I was in my 20’s again.

By the 10th-12th month, I had a head full of denser hair. The only thing I could do during this whole process was to keep patience and take good care of my hair. I met my surgeon many times after my procedure to show him the results and thank him for doing such a great job. I started to feel confident about myself and all my insecurities about my hair were long gone. I felt happy and content, both inside and outside. Now I like the way I look and I have to thank my doctor for doing such an amazing job. It was excruciating and at times I felt hopeless but I am glad that I decided to opt for hair transplant surgery.
