Check Your Windows

The windows are one of the largest causes of accidents in the home. You need to check them to make sure they are safe, especially if you have children living with you. Children often fall from windows because they get curious and open them. You should put a guard or lock on them so that they can’t be messed with. You should also make sure they are sturdy enough to resist break ins.

Cover the Stairs

Again, if you have children, it’s important you cover the stairs. When kids are still trying to find their balance, it isn’t uncommon for them to fall down the stairs. Use stair gates to keep them safe and stop them from tumbling down.

Cushion Corners and Edges

There are plenty of corners and edges in the home that can be a hazard to young kids and elderly people. Cover them with special coverings to avoid injury if landed on.

Do Radon Tests

Radon tests will help you to see if your home is toxic or not. Radon is found in about 1 in every 15 homes, and it is thought to be a big cause of lung cancer in people who don’t smoke. Perform radon tests to see if your home is infected.

Prepare for Fire

Sometimes accidents happen, so prepare your home in case of a fire emergency. Make sure you have all of the alarms in place and that they are working. You need to check your alarms regularly to ensure that they are effective.

Seal the Cracks

Are there cracks in your home? Cracks in the floors and walls could let bugs in. This might not sound like a massive deal, but they can be a big health risk for kids and pets. It shouldn’t take much effort to fill in the cracks. Along with this, you should make sure you keep everything clean too, as mess attracts bugs.

Get a Pro In

If you really want to make sure your home is safe, get a pro in. They can do all kinds of things to make sure your home is safe, like the earth fault loop impedance. It’ll cost a bit more but it’s worth it!

Watch Out for Allergens

Did you know that kids breathe in twice as much air as adults do? This means they can also breathe in more allergens and irritants. You should prevent mould growth as best you can, and never let anybody smoke in your home. Not just for the kids, but for you too. This is important even if you have no kids in the home.

Locks on Cupboards

Locks on the cupboards stop children and even pets from getting in and playing with the dangerous chemicals inside. You should also place them somewhere out of reach, just incase.
