Maintenance Tips to Remember for Engineered Hardwood Flooring

It takes a lot of hard work to find the perfect engineered hardwood flooring for your house. And it is even more difficult to maintain these floorings. Unlike the normal marble tiles, you see around in almost all houses, these floorings need special care. If proper care isn’t given to these floorings, they might result in discoloration or peeling off. These woods are likely to attract a lot of dirt, and sweeping is not the only solution to this. But it isn’t that difficult. A little bit of regular care given on a regular basis is all that is required. Keeping few steps in mind will keep you going a long way to maintaining these floors.

Do’s and Do Not’s for the Maintenance of Engineered Hardwood Flooring

In order to keep your engineered hardwood flooring in good condition, there are few tips which you need to remember.

  • To start off, first, you need to buy the items you need to clean the flooring with. If you have a vacuum then it is perfect, if you don’t have one, you can buy a broom with soft bristles, from the market.
  • A second thing you would need is damp squeegee and a towel.
  • Thereafter, buy a cleaning kit from the market to reach to the corners.
  • You must not use steam on the flooring or any cleaners which contain ammonia.

Once you have all the essentials in hand, you are ready to begin. There are three simple steps to follow:

  • The first step is to do proper sweeping of the floor using just the broom. Clean the loose dry dirt properly from the surface of the floor and from the corners. Here, using a vacuum gives you an added advantage and saves you time. If you’re using the vacuum, then use a lightweight bristle attached vacuum. This will protect the floor from any scratches. If it’s an office, then regular vacuuming is needed and if it’s a home then weekly cleaning would be perfect unless you have pets.
  • Once you are over with the dusting and vacuuming, you can move on to the next step which is mopping. Don’t make the mop too watery. Engineered woods have a tendency to soak water which might damage them in future, thus applying less water is strictly recommended. Mop the entire floor evenly. Again, if it is a commercial place then mop the floor on a weekly basis and if it is a private area then monthly mopping would be more than enough.
  • The third step and the final one is the easiest as it doesn’t require to be done on a regular basis. All kinds of flooring require an in-depth cleaning to remove the dirt which does not get cleaned by mopping or sweeping. It is here when you need your cleaning kit. In the cleaning kit, you would find a mop made up of sponge. Damp the sponge a trifle before applying it.

There is a solution specially made for the engineered wood that comes along with the kit. Apply it evenly on the floor and then after some time clean it properly using the sponge mop. Once the solution is thoroughly cleaned, wipe off the remaining water using a dry cloth.

But sometimes maintaining engineered hardwood floorings can get difficult for you, if you live in a nuclear family where both husband and wife are working. Under those instances, there are other ways to keep your engineered hardwood flooring intact. You can place a carpet on the floor covering so that dirt doesn’t settle on it. It is better to stay from buying coverings made up of rubber as this might leave an impression on the floor. Lastly, don’t walk on these floors wearing shoes or sandals.
