No Kids Allowed: Hosting a Halloween Party for Adults

Who says that Halloween is just for kids? Halloween is a fun time of year for all ages and a great opportunity for hard working adults to dress up and have a little fun. Remember the Halloween parties of your youth? From spooky decorations to a costume contest, you can relive some of your fondest memories of the beloved holiday when you host your own Halloween party:

Costumes Required

What’s Halloween without a costume? As the party host, the opportunities are endless. You can either make it a theme party, such as Prohibition Era or a trending and binge-worthy tv series, or you can even designate characters for partygoers who are indecisive. You can always, of course, host a good old fashioned costume party where anything goes. Not only are costumes essential for any good Halloween, but they require a bit of creativity and fun (something that everyone needs from time to time).

Don’t forget to hold a costume contest. The prizes can be as simple as bragging rights and repurposed trophy from the local thrift store or you can make a nice gift basket of food or other goodies.

Decorate

Although decorating for any other type of party might feel a little overkill, decorating for Halloween just seems like the right thing to do. You can borrow a few ideas from your childhood, such as vintage cardboard cut-outs, or step it up and make some sophisticated yet simple Halloween decorations that will put your guests in the mood.

Food and Drink

Food and drinks are always a “must” at any party. Whether you go for the slightly comical and spooky Halloween themed snacks or offer an assortment of pumpkin spiced baked goods, don’t hesitate to ask your guests to bring a dish to pass or an ingredient for a special cocktail. You can’t go wrong with a bottle of red wine or even a six pack of local craft beer, but why not have a little fun and browse the web for some Halloween drinks or try this one from Food & Wine magazine?

Blood & Sand

The ingredients you will need for this cocktail include: ice, 1 oz blended Scotch, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 1 oz cherry liqueur, 1 oz fresh orange juice and 1 orange wheel. Directions: Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add the Scotch, vermouth, cherry liqueur, and orange juice. Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass. Use orange wheel as a garnish.

Depending on the size of your guest list, rather than using plastic cups and paper plates, get creative with your dinnerware and consider serving alcoholic shots in test tubes or beakers.

Be Smart

Aside from NYE, a Halloween party may be one of the wildest parties you will host this year. Adults dress up, stay in character, and become someone else for the night. Add a little alcohol and some of your guests may become more rowdy than relaxed. As the responsible party host that you are, encourage your party guests to have either a designated driver or an alternate way to get home after an evening of drinking. New Jersey DWI attorney, Anthony J. Vecchio, LLC, reminds us that just a few drinks can increase your risk of getting a DWI, an offense that can limit your freedom to drive and other everyday tasks. Remember, patrol is also likely to be heavier on Halloween or Halloween weekend, so it’s definitely not and never is worth the risk.
