Planning on Holiday Guests? 6 Things Your Guest Room Needs

With the holidays around the corner, you’re likely to host family or friends at your home. Your guest room is often an afterthought because you spend the least amount of time occupying it. Show your visitors that they are part of the family by including the guest room essentials.

Space for Clothing and Luggage

Your guest will need space out of the way to store their luggage. Put hangers and a dresser in the closet for them to hang their clothes up. If the room doesn’t have a closet, you can put a collapsible closet in the room instead. Your guests will appreciate the chance to unpack and spread out, especially if they are staying a while.

Comfortable Bed

Traveling is stressful and can when your guests reach their destination, they’ll want to relax. If the bed in your guest room is uncomfortable, they may have trouble unwinding. Outfit the room with a comfortable but affordable trip from your local mattress store. There are lots of sales during the holidays so that you can score a win with an inviting space. Put some extra charm in place by adding pillows and sheets that coordinate with the season.

Wastebasket

Unless you want your guests wandering around the house looking for the trash—or worse, leaving garbage around their room—include a small garbage can in the room. It’s a small change that can make a big difference for the appearance of the room. Also, you’ll save a lot of time cleaning after your guests return home if you don’t have to pick up trash.

Easy Access to a Power Outlet

Almost every person that visits your house will have a cellphone or tablet. Make sure that they can plug in their electronic devices without moving furniture around. You can plug in a small extension cord or even create a charging station to make it easier for them.

If you have extra chargers from your own devices, leave some in the guest room in case a guest forgets theirs or leaves it at home. They’ll appreciate the thought and their fully charged electronics.

Toiletries

It’s a nice gesture to put out toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes and for your forgetful guests. It gives your visitors the feeling of being in a hotel with luxury amenities. You can purchase some items or, if you’ve collected hotel toiletries, you can use those.

Leave towels for your guests in their guest room or bathroom where they’ll easily find them. If they’re staying a while or will need extra towels for some other reason, show them where you store them and tell them to help themselves when they need more. You might also want to point out the laundry room so they know where to discard dirty towels.

Mirror

A mirror is essential, especially if you not have a bathroom close to the guestroom or you have multiple guests who will need to share the bathroom. Your guests may be attending a church service or restaurant with you and need the privacy to get ready. A floor-length mirror will be especially appreciated.

The holidays are a time of the year for families and friends. Your guest space is a mini-sanctuary away from all of the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring. Ensure that your guests will have an enjoyable space by adding some warm holiday ambiance.
