Rengoku II: The Stairway to Heaven is an action-adventure game released for the handheld psp console in 2006. A feature of this game is a super large arsenal of weapons and modifications for the ADAM robot controlled by the protagonist.
Plot
A great war took place in the world of the game(Chromatic Orb 5E), the two warring parties could not stop fighting with each other because they were afraid that if they stop, the other side will simply destroy them. The war continued until one of the parties invented a super weapon, a combat robot ADAM, which put an end to the war. Since ADAM robots cannot be destroyed, and after the war the need for them has disappeared, people have built special towers where robots fight with each other under the supervision of artificial intelligence. The player controls the ADAM robot, which remembers nothing about the past and tries to stop the senseless massacre that constantly takes place in the towers.
Game process
The gameplay is that we are fighting the same ADAM robots with a large arsenal of different weapons, about 300 types of weapons. The player can install a weapon or an auxiliary device in each part of the robot. In the arsenal, the player has bazookas, swords, lasers, machine guns, drills, flamethrowers and many different weapons, as well as additional devices that allow the player to teleport, increase defense, and many other opportunities.
Small tower
There are only 8 floors in the small tower, in order to move from one floor to another, you must first destroy a certain number of especially strong ADAM robots in certain places on the floor, after which a portal to the floor boss will open. The bosses of each level differ from each other and it is quite difficult to destroy them. After the destruction of 8 bosses, a special HEVEN tower will open in which you can get the best weapons and pump the robot very strongly in Stardew Valley Rancher or Tiller.
One Hundred Floors of the HEVEN Tower
This tower consists of 100 floors divided into 4 areas.
The first 33 floors of HEVEN A are arenas with robots, the only difference is that the ADAM robot has all the upgrades and weapons. New weapons and items can be knocked out of enemies on these floors. Every 11 floors a boss awaits the player.
HEVEN B represents the same arenas where the robot controlled by the player loses all improvements but can use all collected weapons.
HEVEN C is more interesting than the previous floors, each floor in this mode consists of 5 to 7 rooms, in order to go to the floor above you need to destroy enemies in the first three rooms, at the same time the enemies in the other rooms are much strong and kill very quickly the main character, but they drop the rarest and most powerful weapon in the game.
Pumping
When killing enemies, they drop weapons and the so-called “elixir skins” (hereinafter just an elixir). With the help of the elixir, you can increase the number of lives, protection, as well as the number of slots for weapons.
Variety of levels
In this game there are 8 types of levels that differ both in the structure of the arrangement of the rooms and in the graphic design and weapons that the enemies possess. But the differences are insignificant and finding the right room and destroying enemies in it is tiring.
Graphics and sound
The graphics in this game are just fine, you can appreciate it by looking at a segment from the game.
disadvantages
The bosses in this game may differ from each other, but the fights with them are not particularly interesting and varied. The gameplay does not change much during the game(Stardew Valley Fighter or Scout), only the HEVEN tower adds a little variety.
Rengoku II: The Stairway to Heaven Final Score
This game, in my opinion, is a good action-adventure for psp. In this game, there are a lot of different weapons, which differ from each other not only in characteristics, but also in the way of use. Taking into account all the advantages and disadvantages of this game, I give it a 7/10 rating.
