Roof Replacement: 3 Signs Your Roof May Be In Need of Repair

Although it isn’t too common, replacing your roof is one of the most essential things you’ll eventually need to do as a homeowner. The problem, though, is knowing when it’s time to replace your roof. Here are three telltale signs to look for that can indicate that it’s time for a new roof.

Water Damage around the House
If you’re beginning to see small areas of water damage around the ceilings in your home, there’s a good chance that it’s time to look into roof replacement. In some cases, early water damage from a failing roof can be small and barely noticeable. The spots of damage will, however, continue to grow as the roof gradually fails. If you’re seeing signs of water damage, be sure to have a roof inspection done as soon as you can.

Shingles Starting to Lift Up
Another very common sign that your roof needs repaired or replaced is that the shingles have loosened enough to begin lifting off of the roof. If you’re seeing shingles sticking up, it’s time to call a roofing contractor in. Space in between the shingles and the roof deck itself can allow water in. Loose shingles are also more likely to be blown off the roof entirely in the event of a large windstorm. It is worth noting, though, that loose shingles don’t always call for a complete roof replacement. In some cases, the damage is confined to a small area and can be fixed without putting a new roof on your entire home.

Soft Spots in the Roof
If you get up on your roof and walk around, you should have a firm, even surface under your feet the entire time. If you feel soft spots that seem to give when you step on them, it’s a sure sign that you need roof repair services immediately. These soft spots are areas where the wood underneath the shingles has become damaged. This kind of damage occurs most often in older homes, but it can happen to newer ones under the right circumstances. To fix the soft spots, you’ll need to have the wood in the affected areas replaced.

By keeping an eye out for these three signs of significant damage, you should be able to tell when you need a new roof. If you do begin seeing these signs, be sure to get a repair service in as soon as possible. The longer you allow the damage to go unchecked, the worse it will become.
