Summer Is Almost Here! 5 Tips to Prep Your Yard for Barbecues & Fun

Summer is the season of spending time outdoors. There’s no better way to do this than with a barbecue in the backyard with food, friends, and family. Use the following steps below and your yard will be get-together ready in no time.

Lawn Care

Start early to get your yard ready for all the get-togethers. After all, you will have a lot of eyes on your grass, shrubs, flower gardens and more. Care for the lawn as soon as spring arrives so it is lush and green. Using a good fertilizer is a must. Keep the shrubs pruned and be sure to weed the flower beds to make them look their best. Any walkways should be clear of debris and even power washed, if possible, so they are easy to see and safe to walk on.

Grow a Garden

Nothing makes summer more fun than having good vegetables and fruits at your disposal. You can grow watermelon so that it is available for the gatherings that you’ll have with friends and family throughout the summer. You can also grow bell peppers and squash to be grilled up as a healthy side with the meat that you’ll surely barbecue. Having your own garden is also a good way to save money as it can get pretty expensive to shop at your local store every time you need these.

Seating

If you are serving food at a barbecue, you want to make sure your guests have somewhere comfortable to sit while eating or even just conversing amongst themselves. An outdoor table with comfortable matching chairs is a great start, but make sure you have seat cushions on all chairs. Make sure any focal point around the yard has proper seating so people can break off into groups to mix and mingle while also having a comfortable place to sit.

Lighting

Most summer get-togethers will go well past sunset, so it is important to have adequate lighting that also adds to the laid-back summer atmosphere. A fire pit people can sit around to enjoy talking, laughing, and enjoying the cool summer night is a great addition to any backyard, but be sure to follow local regulations for having a fire pit. Hanging lanterns and string lights can create a cozy look and it is a great idea to add path lighting to any sidewalk paths you have around the backyard to help illuminate them. This makes it safer to walk around the yard after dark.

Build a Deck

If you don’t already have a deck in the backyard to serve as a focal point, this can be a great addition. Building a backyard deck doesn’t have to be extravagant, or you can make it as complex as you’d like depending on your needs and wants. You might even want to have the same people you’d invite over for those backyard barbecues to help you put that deck together. Imagine lounging around to get a tan on your backyard deck or enjoying great company with some lunch, not to mention those barbecue get-togethers.

Hopefully, the above tips will be helpful to you as you go about getting your yard ready for upcoming barbecues and good fun with both family and friends. By making the effort now, you’re destined to have the most memorable summer ever during this 2018 year.
