Skin care can seem like a huge mystery, especially to those who have struggled with acne or eczema in their lives. Your skin is the largest organ in your body. Just as you need to take care of your kidneys or your liver, the same can be said for your skin.

In the same way that you’re careful to not take in too much alcohol in order to not destroy your liver, you have to safeguard your skin from things that cause just as much damage. Your skin is just as important as your other organs-maybe even more so because it’s the organ that is covering your entire body!

If you don’t have healthy skin, you’re subjecting yourself to outside elements even more, allowing them to have easier access. This can cause your other organs to be in danger. To keep your skin properly hydrated and healthy at all times, follow these tips.

It Takes More Than Drinking Water

Most people are guilty of not drinking enough water, and this is an integral part of how your body functions. Not only does water regulate your body, it helps you digest, gives you energy, and rids your body of toxins. There is a catch 22, though. When you drink water, it doesn’t immediately go to your skin. This means you have to do more to give your skin the hydration it needs.

Avoid Harsh Elements

Since your skin is on the outside of our body, it is constantly being subjected to harsh elements. Do your best to avoid elements such as low humidity, sun, alcohol, dry atmospheres and high winds. It’s obviously impossible to avoid these elements based on where you live, but just be aware and do what you can to counteract what you’re around.

Another thing is to avoid taking long baths and long hot showers. More time in the water means your essential oils are being stripped away and aren’t being replaced. This results in dry, unhealthy skin.

Hydrate Externally and Often

Your skin absorbs whatever is put on it. If you think about nicotine or energy patches, they’re designed this way because the scientists know this. Anything placed on your skin goes immediately into your bloodstream. This means that the best way to hydrate your skin is to put something hydrating on it.

You want to be very careful though. Way too many products out there have dangerous chemicals that will harm your body. Choose clean products, and hydrate every night to keep your skin healthy, glowing and soft.

The celebrities will tell you that they look so good because they stay out of harsh elements like the sun, and they have the best products on the market to keep their skin hydrated. If you want to achieve the same effect, do as they do. Find good products that are free of nasty chemicals and hydrate like it’s a life or death situation…because it kind of is.
