To say that cheese is one of the most loved kitchen items in the world is an understatement. In fact, the list of top cheese consuming countries all over the globe includes places you would not expect like Australia, Israel, Argentina and Czech Republic. The fact that the average American eats an average of 32.6 pounds of cheese in their meals every year is remarkable.
Needless to say, our love for cheese is something we clearly share with other people. These are ten of my personal reasons why I love cheese so much:
1. It Can Improve Almost Anything
Can you imagine cannelloni or risotto without cheese? Neither can we! You can add cheese to any type of dish and you will surely be raving the moment the meal is served at your table. It also gives you more reason to try out other food items that you would otherwise run away from. For example, you may only try the hated anchovies as a pizza flavor if a lot of cheese is put in it. Cheese is also known to make certain veggies taste better.
2. It Has Been Around For A Long Time Now
Historians have posited that cheese has been in existence for 10,000 years now. While they do not know the exact origin of this wonderful kitchen item, you can be assured by the fact that they are as crazy about it then as we are now.
3. It Can Take You On A Culinary Journey
Almost every corner of the world has its own form or type of cheese. Brie is widely associated with France while Gruyere is a popular type of cheese from Switzerland. Mexico has its Cotija, Greece has Feta and the Philippines has its Kesong puti. Since grocery stores and supermarkets are beginning to stock different types of cheeses, you can now travel the world in the comfort of your dining table.
4. It Makes The Invite List
Cheese can become the theme to your next gathering or party. It can serve as the centerpiece to a date night. Plus, wine and cheese pairing parties are great events to attend no matter what time of the year.
5. It Offers A Lot Of Variety
Variety is cheese’s last name. There are more than 650 varieties of cheese all over the world. This means that you will have a lot of cheese to choose from. It is sold in almost every form available: blocks, spreads, sliced, shredded and wheels. So if there is one cheese you do not like, you are bound to love at least one other type.
6. There Is Nothing Quite Like It
Not to be dramatic but our lives would be less enjoyable without cheese. So will our pasta.
8. It Can Be Served Last-Minute
Did not expect a set of visitors to stop by? Do not worry about snacks. Just get cheese and crackers and serve it to them. Apart from this, there is a whole set of cheese snacks and meals that you can cook and whip out on a minute’s notice. Just stock up on cheese and you can face anything, really.
9. It Is Easy To Make
You may not know this but you can actually make cheese from scratch. The easiest types of cheese to make are usually goat cheese, mozzarella and ricotta. Just go search for DIY cheesemaking kits and you will find yourself making your own set in no time. You can have regular cheese makers available in the market as well. The rennet for cheese making has been used for a long time one. You can have one for yourself and enjoy making various kinds of cheese for different dishes you may want to prepare with cheese.
10. It Can Be Eaten Any Time Of The Day
You can eat cheese for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. You can mix it with eggs for a nice set of cheese omelet. For lunch, you can serve it with your lasagna or macaroni. You can even use it as the dip for several vegetables that you can serve for dinner. When it comes to cheese, the sky is really the limit.
- It Can Help Roads Ice-Free During The Winter
In Milwaukee, they have found a great use for the cheese brine, which is a by-product of mozzarella and provolone. They pour it on roads during the winter to make sure that cars are safe. They no longer have to worry about the roads being iced. Who knew the uses of cheese goes beyond the kitchen?
