For many people, life in general often settles into the same rote activities day after day, month after month, and sure enough, year after year. Any activities undertaken are often the calm, ordinary, and safe things most everyone in town does: perhaps fishing, golf, swimming, and possibly a softball league. That sort of “humdrum” thing. But now and then, maybe that desire to do something bold and adventurous at least once in life enters the mind. For those ‘daredevils’ that may want to step out of their comfort zone at least once, here are a few ideas to consider.
Skydiving
For a pure adrenaline, heart-thumping rush, there can’t be a more thrilling adventure than skydiving. Just viewing some of the gorgeous videos online makes many people want to call up their local skydiving club and schedule their first jump. Not for the faint of heart, though, but this can go from a once-in-a-lifetime experience to one that people may enjoy doing on a more-or-less regular basis.
This thrilling experience is very safe (with the right instruction), can be done with friends (Tandem Skydiving), and can be stepped up in intensity beyond the typical beginner’s jump. There are accredited programs all around out there, so those interested in doing this should be able to do an online search and find a facility near them. Find some scenic areas near you and see if there are any skydiving businesses nearby.
Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping is another activity that often has those with a fear of heights running away screaming. This is another (possibly) once-in-a-lifetime activity that will surely be memorable. You will be jumping off a tall building, bridge, helicopter, or air balloon and free-falling attached to a big rubber band. You will fall full-speed, come to the end of the line, then rebound back up… over and over until the energy is finally spent. It just can’t get more bold and daring than this. If you have a fear of heights, this will likely help you overcome it at least a little bit. You will feel accomplished afterwards.
Cedar Point
This “Roller Coaster Capital of the World” in Sandusky, Ohio features 17 roller coasters which vary in speed, size, and intensity. Try them all, but take special note of “Top Thrill Dragster”, a 420-foot, 120 MPH ride that gets riders up to that lightning speed in just 3.8 seconds. You can get a group of friends together to go on each roller coaster, or consider taking a solo trip for even more adventure. This is a good option for those who aren’t quite ready to take the plunge and attempt skydiving or bungee jumping, but still want an adrenaline rush.
It’s clear that these activities all have something in common – thrills that may only happen once in someone’s lifetime, but surely activities that will create memories to last a lifetime. If you’re ready for some adventure in your life, make some memories of breaking out of the old routine and taking a thrilling chance at living life a little on the “wild side”.
