Depression can affect us all at one point or another. Sometimes it’s triggered by a specific event, other times it just comes on all of a sudden. These 7 effective methods can help you to ward off depression and feel better than ever:

Get Into a Routine

When you feel depressed, days can start to blend in with one another. To make sure this doesn’t happen, try to get into a routine. Even if it’s just a gentle routine, it’ll help you feel much better and more positive about life.

Set Small Goals

You don’t need to set yourself massive goals to begin with. Start by setting small goals and see how you get on. For example, one small goal could be to tidy up after yourself every day. It doesn’t need to be substantial, but it’ll help you get a feeling of accomplishment. You can then build yourself up to achieve bigger goals.

Exercise

Exercise is a known natural cure of depression due to the sheer amount of endorphins it can create in the body. Endorphins are happy hormones, which help us to feel better about life in general. You’ll more than likely build up some self esteem and confidence from the way you’re improving your body too.

Get Plenty of Sleep

If you aren’t getting enough sleep, this could greatly affect your sense of well being. Try to get at least 8 hours a night by going to bed at the same time each night and getting up at the same time each day. Any therapist would recommend this to you too. A routine when it comes to getting enough sleep is essential.

Eat Healthy Food

Healthy food will make you feel better about yourself, in the same way as exercise will. It’ll compliment the exercise you’re doing perfectly, allowing you to get amazing results when it comes to your body. You’ll be doing yourself the world of good on the inside too! Small amounts of chocolate are even thought to help combat depression – but don’t binge!

Challenge Your Negative Thoughts

The negative thoughts you have probably don’t always make sense. Sometimes, you might find yourself thinking that nobody likes you. Ask yourself if this is really true. What evidence do you have to support that theory? Don’t just let these thoughts enter your head and consume you.

Do New Things

Doing new things creates new pathways in your brain which can help to make you feel happy. You could meet new people, learn an instrument, or learn a new language. It’s totally your choice what you do, it’ll all help you to feel better. Having fun might feel difficult or out of reach, but you have to try. Having fun shouldn’t be hard work, but when you feel like this it will be. You just have to keep trying and eventually you’ll feel better.

These 7 methods have been proven to work, so try them and you should instantly feel a bit better. Make a habit of them and you’ll love life again!
