Why Oil Change is Considered so Important in Car Maintenance

To run its usual way, every vehicle needs certain maintenance. That is the reason why preventive maintenance is suggested by the automakers as a compulsory practice. There are several components of preventive maintenance, that protect the car from getting in trouble. Oil change is one of the preventive maintenance components, that is given higher priority, than many other.

It Makes the Engine Work

It does not need to be said how important the engine is to any vehicle. But to make the engine run and perform to its optimum level, one has to keep it properly lubricated. The engine oil is basically the lubricant that helps the engine components work smoothly by avoiding a metal to metal contact, so that it doesn’t generate excessive heat, and eventually damage the engine.

The engine oil needs to be filled at a certain level and must be in its purest form to maintain its original viscosity. It is only then, that the engine oil would be able to flow freely and unobstructed manner between the different engine parts that are located too closely and can come in contact with each other, unless the engine oil keeps creating a barrier between them.

Once a vehicle crosses a certain distance and is used for a certain period of time, the engine oil filter starts getting soiled and ineffective, after gathering substantial amount of dust and debris. At this stage it fails to protect the engine oil reservoir from the external contaminants. As a result, the oil starts accumulating too much of dust and debris and loses its viscosity. It fails to flow down the engine parts smoothly, and then the engine starts getting overheated. The contamination of engine oil also leads to many other issues that we will jot down right here.

Increased Fuel Consumption

Since, the engine fails to operate its usual way due to the lack of proper lubrication, it starts struggling for each and every movement. As a result, it needs more intake of fuel to perform every task it is given. Once the oil is changed with a fresh one, the engine comes back to its normal state and regains its fuel efficiency.

Affecting the Exhaust System

The lack of lubrication in the engine leads to yet another big issue, which is the damage of the exhaust system. The clogged up engine compartment fails to intake fresh air and generates more harmful gas inside the compartment. This also affects the exhaust system which now emits more harmful gas, or white smoke because it is unable to perform its task. Again, it is by changing the engine oil in time, which can bring back the car exhaust system to its original condition.

Whenever a person gets some work done from experts, they will receive a warranty on it. If something goes wrong within a specified time period, these people will again fix it for free. Such an option is not available when one tries to fix it him/herself. Moreover, there is always a chance of spending more later if one does attempt to fix wheel alignment on his/her own.
