So many people think that cardio is the be all and end all when it comes to fitness. They spend hours and hours on the treadmill, then wonder why they haven’t got amazing results. It’s beyond me why anybody would want to spend an hour or two slogging away! The key to a better body is actually resistance training. You don’t need to cut out cardio completely. In fact, that would be a little silly. Cardio is still good for your health and can help to burn fat when done correctly. That being said, your focus should be on resistance training. Read on to learn more about it!

You Build Your Muscles

Cardio does not build your muscles, and therefore, does not shape your body. If you want a better body, you need to shape it. It only makes sense! Building your muscles will help to create a better looking body in both men and women. Men will get bigger muscles, while women will simply become more defined in all of the right places. Women get scared and think that they are going to balloon like the hulk, but that would take years, lots of food and lots of supplements. It would have to be deliberate! Building muscle is hard, so there’s no way you’ll start looking like a member of the opposite sex anytime soon. I dare you to try!

You can’t simply focus on one area when you train either. You should focus on every area of the body. Whether you choose to do all over body workouts or workout a body part one by one, is up to you. You might do shoulder workouts on a monday and chest on a tuesday, or everything on alternate days. You may need to experiment to see what gets the best results. It’s also up to you whether you want to use weights or your body weight. Many start with body weight and then up their weights when things become easier.

More Muscle Mass Means More Calories/Fat Burned

When you begin to build more muscle mass, you automatically burn more calories and fat. That’s right; even when you’re not doing anything at all! The more muscle in the body, the better the body deals with calories and fat. Your metabolism speeds up too. Doing cardio might burn calories while you’re doing it, but it certainly doesn’t continue to do it after you’ve finished. Once you’ve finished a weight workout, you’ll burn long afterwards too. There’s nothing better for your health or the way your body looks!

You Can Do Different Types of Resistance

There are many different types of resistance training you can do, so it never gets boring. As mentioned before, there’s body weight, and the option to add weights. You can also do plyometrics, which is a more explosive kind of body weight exercise. It’s usually best to do a mix so you don’t get bored. This will usually also get you the best results!

Let me know what you think of resistance training in the comments!
