As one of the top three stressful life events moving home is often something that is approached with trepidation. After all, packing up every tiny piece of your entire life and moving somewhere different can be a bit daunting. The good news is, however, that you can take some of the stress off if you follow the guideline below.
Don’t pack and clear
The temptation when we are packing up our home is often to use it as a time to throw things away and have a good old clear out. However, this isn’t always the best idea as it can make your situation more stressful and the process of packing longer than it needs to be.
Instead, if you have time try and clear some of the clutter you know, you will be getting rid of before you get to the packing stage. Then you don’t have to worry about the emotional strain of deciding what to throw away as well as getting everything boxed up safely for the move. Just giving yourself one important and crucial job to do at a time can make all the difference in whether the situation is manageable or too stressful.
Get help
For some reason, many folks think that when they are moving home, they need to struggle with it all alone. However, with so many jobs and so much heavy lifting to do, this doesn’t always work. Instead, you need to know when to ask for help, whether it’s from friends, neighbors, family, or professional moving companies that can take on some of the heavy lifting for you. Once you have help and realize that you don’t have to everything on your own, it can make the moving experience a lot easier. Something that in turn can make the settling process in your new home easier too, meaning more happiness all around.
Have a plan
Moving house is simple right, you just pack the stuff from the old house and get it to the new house? Oh if only it were like that. Unfortunately, anyone that has actually been through this process knows that it isn’t. There is much more to do than packing, and packing itself isn’t just a matter of sticking your stuff in boxes and hoping for the best.
That is why it’s crucial that you have a moving plan that includes all the jobs you need to do like canceling the utilities and informing others of your change of address. Also, include on this plan a rough guide to where things will go in the new home and try and pack your boxes accordingly. Then when you arrive, you place the boxes in the right room, and it’s just a matter of setting those things out in that space, rather than searching all over the house for a home for them. This is something that is definitely worth doing because it can make all the difference when you finally get there, and it can make the whole settling process feel less like moving a mountain and much more doable.
