4 Dangerous Jobs That Are More Play Than Work

Not all jobs require sitting at a desk counting down the hours until it’s time to go home. Perhaps you’re just not made to type on a computer all day long or answer phone call after phone call. Maybe you need something a little more on the adventurous side with a bit of danger sprinkled in. If this sounds like something your heart longs for, here are a few careers that put the fun in danger.

Commercial Fisherman

While it’s not the same as taking a small boat out onto the local lake with the family to fish, being a commercial fisherman still involves being out on the water catching fish. Just on a much larger scale. It is also a lot more dangerous than a casual fishing trip. Being a commercial fisherman was considered the most dangerous job in America from 2010 to 2014. Luckily, there are companies like Maritime Law Center who specialize in open water injuries who can help a commercial fisherman who does get hurt on the job.

Stunt Driver

A career as a stunt driver seems like a dream come true. They get paid to drive fast and perform crazy stunts while not having to suffer through the fame that comes with being known in the movie. Stunt drivers don’t only drive new cars; they also perform in boats or even submarines doing wild flips and tricks. While it would be fun, it’s also important to be careful because the job is dangerous. If you want to be a stunt driver you may need to get used to feeling some minor pains just from a normal day on the job.

Lumberjack

If you have a love of destruction and the idea of handling powerful tools to cut down enormous trees, then being a lumberjack might just be the career for you. According to CNN Money, the fatality rate per every 100,000 workers is 92, making this career a very dangerous one. While it has grown safer due to advancements in technology, sometimes the dense forest still calls for the use of an old-fashioned chain saw. Maybe it sounds old fashioned, but the lumber industry is still a booming one with plenty of work and plenty of excitement mixed into your day.

Alaskan Airplane Pilot

Airplane pilots have the joy of flying above the clouds day after day. They literally get to soar to new heights for a living. What could be more exciting than that?! With passengers or solo, these pilots get to be in their own world in the sky for hours each day. However, the fatality rate is 71 per every 100,000 workers. Part of what makes it so dangerous is the unpredictable weather paired with Alaska’s mountains.

If an adrenaline rush is your favorite thing then maybe being a commercial fisherman, stunt driver, Lumberjack or Alaskan airplane pilot is the career for you. It’s up to you to decide if the risk is worth the adventure involved in the work load. While the jobs are quite dangerous, at least you’ll look forward to going to work each day.
