8 Benefits Of Coconut Oil For Beautiful Skin

Coconut oil has many uses.  It can be used to create delicious meals, as well as tame frizzy hair and minimize signs of aging on the skin.  Below are at least eight (8) ways that coconut oil can be used, to keep skin hydrated and looking young and healthy.

Face Cream

Coconut oil is a wonderful facial cream.  Simply apply a little to the surface of your skin after your morning shower (or anytime you wash your face).  Allow it to absorb into the skin for about 10 (ten) minutes, prior to applying your makeup.  Just a dab (size of a dime) is enough to cover your entire face.

Eye Cream

Coconut oil will help to reduce dark circles under the eyes, and tiny lines that appear under and around the eye area.  Coconut oil help to encourage the production of collagen, and according to some experts, collagen is the basis for youthful looking skin.

Make-up Remover

Coconut oil will effectively and gently remove make-up, especially around the eyes.  Apply coconut oil to a make-up pad or a cotton ball, and wipe over your skin, until all make-up is removed.  Remember, it is important that you rinse your face with cool water, after this cleaning process.

Moisturizer

Experts in the field of beauty, swear by the moisturizing power that is provided by pure coconut oil.  A little bit goes a long way, and according to experts, it is absorbed into the skin quicker than commercial brand lotions.

To make your own body lotion to use daily (and share with friends), simply mix (with a hand mixer) one (1) cup of coconut oil with (1) one teaspoon of Vitamin E oil (simply puncture a few capsules for the amount you need).

Lip Balm

Winter months can make your lips look and feel horrible.  By keeping a tiny jar of coconut oil, you can dab a little bit on your lips, whenever you feel the need to give your lips the moisturizing benefits they desire, to feel smooth and refreshed.

Exfoliating Scrub

Exfoliating the skin is a necessary part of any beauty treatment, because as a person ages, cell regeneration slows.  Basically, this means that the body sheds and regenerates at a slower pace.  When dead skin begins to pile up on the skin’s surface, the result is a dull complexion.  In addition, an excess of dead skin can lead to clogged pores, which can result in acne.

A basic exfoliating scrub is a combination of baking soda and coconut oil (equal parts).  Massage on the skin and rinse with water, to remove any residue left behind by the baking soda.

The sky is the limit, as the combination of homemade exfoliating scrubs is endless.  A couple of example combinations are below (once ingredients are combined, store in an airtight glass jar):

1 cup sugar
¼ cup melted coconut oil
¼ cup jojoba oil
10 drops each of citrus-scented essential oil

Coffee lovers may love this exfoliating scrub combination:

½ cup each of sugar and coffee grounds
¼ cup each of coconut oil and olive oil
10 to 15 drops of cinnamon or vanilla essential oil is optional

Treating Eczema

Dry skin and chronic skin conditions (like eczema) can be annoying, itchy, and painful.  Coconut oil could be the natural cure you have been waiting for.  Not only is it recommended as a quality moisturizer, but it acts as an effective anti-inflammatory.

According to Whitney P. Bowe, MD, a dermatologist from the Advanced Dermatology PC in New York, he said that coconut oil is mostly saturated fat, which is effective in hydrating the skin and reducing inflammation.    It is recommended that coconut oil be rubbed on dry elbows, legs, hands and heels, to keep skin feeling smooth and looking young for years.

In a double blind study, coconut oil was compared to mineral oil for the treatment of eczema in children.  The results showed that 46 percent of patients using the coconut oil had shown significant improvement, and less than 20% of children using the mineral oil showed any improvement.

Acne

Acne can be a problem for many teens, as well as adults.  Coconut oil may help to reduce the inflammation associated with acne, and have your face looking smoother.  Clean your face thoroughly and pat dry.  Apply a thin layer of coconut oil to the face every evening.  Allow it to absorb into skin for about 20 minutes before retiring for the night.

Depending on the severity of the acne, this natural treatment may take some time before results are observed.

Added Beauty Benefits

Coconut oil is an amazing hair conditioner, that will have hair looking and feeling like you never thought possible.  It is also a great treatment for taming frizzy, out of control hair.  To keep crazy locks under control, simply warm a small amount of coconut oil (this can be done by rubbing your hands together), and then run your fingers, coated with coconut oil, through your hair.  Strands of hair will be smoothed and tamed, without leaving hair feeling greasy.
