There’s spending time with your family, and then there’s spending quality time with them. There’s a difference between time and quality time. If you feel you and your family need to connect more, then here’s what you need to know:
Avoid Mobiles, Computers and TVs
Mobiles, computers and TVs can be a huge distraction. If you’re scrolling on your phone or watching the TV, you can’t expect to bond as a family and learn about one another. Try to avoid these during your planned family time.
Aim to Learn About Your Children
Aim not just to ask your children what they learned at school. Learn about their personalities too. Depending on how many kids you have, they will all have their own individual beliefs and wants that you might be oblivious to. You can start by asking them different questions, for example, what would you buy if you had all of the money in the world? This will help you to learn about their wants and needs!
Always Eat Together
Instead of eating in front of the TV, eat around a table and make the most of this time together. Eating together is a dying tradition, so try to keep it going. You’ll be able to have a real conversation while you eat instead of eating mindlessly while concentrating on something else.
Plan Family Trips
Plan some family trips out so you know you have a big fun day coming up. Family days out are very important, especially during the summer holidays. Your kids will remember these days for the rest of their lives.
Play Games With Them
Play games with your kids. It could be a board game or something like I-spy. You’ll have lots of fun together and introduce them to new games that they didn’t realise existed. I always look fondly at the games my parents taught me when I was young.
Get Some Exercise With Them
Go for walks with your kids, play games like swingball and basketball. Get some exercise and some fresh air! You can even find classes designed for both parents and kids. Do a martial arts class with them, or something similar. You’ll be doing them a favour by making them active when they’re young, and they’ll stay fitter as they get older. Obesity is a big problem in today’s society, and so many kids are lazy! Don’t let this be your kids.
Read Together
Reading together is a great joy. I love doing this with my kids before bed, but you can do it any time. Make sure they have a go at reading to you too, so you can help to improve their skills. Getting your kids into literature is another great thing you can do, so pick out some books you loved as a kid and introduce them. If you were never read to and can’t think of a book, then simply look on a site like Goodreads.
Are you ready to spend more quality time with your family? Don’t wait any longer!
Bye for now!
