Getting Your Home Ready for Summer

For many, summer is a time to relax, get outside more often, and enjoy the natural beauty and comfort of the season. It’s wonderful to be able to do that from your own backyard or front porch – and it’s just as wonderful to cool off with air conditioning inside!

Summer is often associated with leisure. But, if you want to be able to enjoy the season, it’s worth it to get your home “summer-ready” now.

What does that mean, exactly? It’s easy to think about how you can prepare your house for winter, but what needs to be done before summer? Let’s cover a few tips and trends you can put into place this season. Preparing now will make it easier to entertain this summer, or just spend time with your family at home.

Getting Rid of Clutter

Did you have the best of intentions when it came to spring cleaning but didn’t get around to everything? Summer is a great time to declutter and organize your house. Whether you want to clear out a room to give it a different function or embrace a more minimalist lifestyle, take the time to clean and organize, and you’ll enjoy the benefits of that all season.

Not sure where to get started? Decluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Keep some of these tips in mind to make it easier

  • Start with one room
  • Work in small sections
  • Follow a specific method/pattern
  • Set a timer for each cleaning section to stay motivated

Once you’ve gotten some of the bigger cleaning projects done, it’ll be easier to stay on top of daily decluttering tasks. Keeping your house clean every day is easier than you might think. Little things make a big difference. Start by making your bed every morning. Do a little bit of laundry at a time. Clean up after every meal. These tasks only take a few minutes of effort but will keep your home clean and organized every day.

A clean, organized home can improve your physical health while reducing the effects of stress and anxiety. Plus, with a clean home, you can switch things up with your decor and design, making each room feel more like “you.” If you really want a relaxed summer, put in the work now (and do a little every day) to keep things clean.

Making Exterior Improvements

Once you’ve got the inside of your house organized, take a look at the outside. Exterior home maintenance is a necessity if you want to keep your house looking great. It also often helps with the overall structural integrity of your home.

Just like cleaning, home exterior projects don’t have to be daunting. With a bit of effort now, you and your family can enjoy spending more time outside this summer. Put some of the following on your checklist:

  • Restaining your deck
  • Making driveway improvements
  • Repairing/replacing windows
  • Power washing the entire house

The easiest way to determine what needs to be done is simply to walk around your house. You’ll be able to quickly tell if your home needs a paint job or if the gutters need cleaning. Putting off exterior projects will make them harder to deal with later. Now that the weather is warm, you can spend more time outside getting that work done. Doing so now will allow you to enjoy the fruits of your labor while the season is still around, until having to wait until next year.

There are so many things you can do to get your home ready for summer. The best part? None of them have to be difficult. Think about some of the ideas listed here, and don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and get to work to prepare your home for the season.
