Is it worth the risk of going on a Chernobyl tour?

Nowadays, people have unfortunately experienced many disasters of a different nature. One of the largest disasters happened on April 26, 1986, in Chernobyl. A tragedy that is known not only in Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, but also in the far west and east. The consequences of this disaster you can still see by booking a Chernobyl tour today.

By the spring of 1986, the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl NPP had been operating for 2.5 years. Its shutdown for ongoing mid-life repairs was scheduled for April 25th. Nowadays the fourth power unit may be observed from afar by visitors of the existing Ukrainian Chernobyl tour. Before stopping it, it was decided to test turbine generator number 8 in run-down mode with a load for its own needs. The authors of the experiment were interested in checking how much the rotor energy would be enough to generate electricity and maintain the performance of their own mechanisms and the entire unit in an emergency – a power outage.

Such tests have been carried out more than once, but on this day of April everything was not prepared professionally, and the security measures were organized very formally. On April 26 at 01:24 a thermal explosion took place inside the reactor, in the core, because of excessive pressure, intense vaporization, heating, and destruction of fuel. Contact of the hydrogen mixture of the internal explosion with oxygen led to a terrible “thermonuclear” explosion, which formed a hellish all-killing fire on the ruins of the power unit.

Can you go to Chernobyl without health consequences now?

More than 30 years have passed since that moment. As the radiation layer lay on the surface of the earth unevenly, in some parts of the excluded zone there is practically no radiation left or it is equal to the radiation level in the center of Kiev. The safest way to visit an abandoned area is to use the services of tour operators. Thanks to the Chernobyl tour, even the most serious and strict tourists turn into children: they are curious, they are surprised, some even have tears in their eyes.

Some foreign tourists choose the Ukrainian Chernobyl tour to get acquainted with interesting Soviet architecture, somebody wants to visit scary places seen in games, movies, or on the book pages. This is the place of the most serious man-made disaster, the place of tragic history. People do not come here to cry or have fun, as in an amusement park. It is a unique experience with different feelings. And as the expectations from the trip are different, so are the conclusions for everyone.

The Chernobyl tours cost is different. It depends on your choice of a package tour (one-day tour, two-day tour, or private\group tour). Any chosen tour to Chernobyl Zone provides an excursion to:

  • To the ghost-city Pripyat;
  • The amusement park in Pripyat;
  • Chernobyl Bridge of Death;
  • The Red Forest;
  • Secret radar station arc;
  • Chernobyl NPP Lookout and Sarcophagus;
  • Cooling tower;
  • A pond with catfish as well as various Soviet buildings.

The more days on your chosen tour to Chernobyl will be, the more you can see.
