The most highly anticipated season of the year, summer, is about to arrive. You’ve made big plans to have an adventure. You are letting the road take you where it will on your vacation with no set destination in mind. Your first order of business is to tune up the car and make sure the camper is in tiptop shape. Now, you are ready to start packing. Before you pull out parts unknown, make a checklist of items every summer traveler should have on hand.

Be Selective About Bedding

If you plan on sleeping in your camper instead of a hotel, you want to put your comfort at the top of your list. Bring your favorite pillows from home or buy some that are specifically intended for road trips. Make sure you have enough blankets. Even though the days are warm in the hottest months of the year, evenings can be cool. You may be surprised how much the temperature drops when you set up camp under the cover of the wilderness.

Pack a Toolbox with Essentials

Don’t forget your toolbox. It should include the basics, such as pliers, a crescent wrench, diagonal cutters, a hammer, and a set of wrenches. A grease gun kit is always a wise addition to your go-to collections of tools. You never know when your wheel bearings will need some additional lubrication to have a smooth ride. It will save you time and money when you come prepared.

Stock Up on Sunscreen and Bug Spray

A road trip and camping adventure will include more time in the great outdoors. Apply sunscreen when you are heading out for a hike or relaxing by the lake. Don’t make the mistake of forgetting about it on cloudy days. Your skin can still be damaged by the skin. You’ll want a good supply of bug spray as well. You don’t want to be dinner for the swarm of insects waiting in the woods. Choose a scentless product or one that has a scent you can enjoy.

Bring a First Aid Kit

You never know when you might have a mishap during your travels. Include bandages, antibiotic ointment, tweezers, cool and hot packs, pain reliever, fever reducer, something for an upset stomach, and anti-diarrhea medication. You won’t have to run to a store if there is a minor health issue during your trip. You’ll also speed up your recovery when your medication is on hand.

Load Up the Coolers

Bring a good supply of water and other beverages in your cooler. You’ll also need your favorites when you want to cook your own meals. Packaged snacks are easy to grab and go when you are driving or exploring your surroundings. Skip the trips to the grocery store by bringing your must-have items in your camper or vehicle.

Capture the Moment with Photos

Get some disposable cameras, bring your favorite camera, or pack your cell phone for photographs. Your vacation can’t last forever, but your pictures will. If you do snap photos on your phone, wait to post them until you get home. It’s never wise to let the social media world know that you aren’t at home.

Think About Entertainment

You may want to go completely off the grid, leaving all electronics behind. If so, pack some playing cards and other games to pass the time in the evening or when the weather doesn’t cooperate. If you are planning on keeping electronics to a minimum, you can still bring your tablet or e-reader to occupy yourself when you are winding down in the evening. Don’t forget your charger that can be used in your vehicle. This will come in handy if you would like to play your favorite list of tunes when you go to bed or during the day. Otherwise, make sure you have a radio and a few magazines or paperback books. You can also bring a journal to write down the highlights of your trip along the way.

Conclusion

Make your travels this summer unforgettable. Sit down with a notebook and jot down everything you need before you roll. Talk to anyone else who is accompanying you on your journey to ensure you include their needs as well to make this trip a success story.
