The Battle Between Keto and Paleo

Everyday it seems like we are flooded with new and different fad diets that are guaranteed to help us lose weight, but no matter what diet it is the results always seem to be the same. You lose weight for a period of time, then struggle and give up. Not only is that unhealthy for our bodies, it’s unhealthy for our mindset and the way we treat ourselves as well. That’s what makes things like the keto and paleo lifestyles so appealing. Following you will see these two things compared so that you can both see their appeal and make an informed choice as to which is right for you.

What is Keto?

The keto lifestyle is based on the premise that you are able to teach your body to burn other fuels for energy besides the typical sugar and carbohydrates. Specifically, the keto diet aims to target and burn your fat. The “ratio” of food that you are expected to follow throughout the day is 75/20/5, with 75% of your food coming from healthy fats, 20% coming from protein, and 5% from carbs. These percents push your body to burn both the fat you are consuming and the fat on your body, which leads to a long list of overall benefits. Some of the things you can expect to see are a more stabilized blood sugar, improved energy levels, and a more clear mental focus all day long. This lifestyle also helps you feel fuller for longer because of the different way that your body is burning fuel.

What is Paleo?

The paleo diet is also known as the caveman diet, and the basic idea is that you eat foods that are readily available and not processed. Things like dairy also would not have been available to cavemen so those are off the menu as well. Overall, this diet is a way to eliminate processed foods. You are able to look at eating as a function or a means to an end instead of a competitive sport. Followers of the paleo diet can enjoy foods such as fish, eggs, fruits, select vegetables, and nuts and seeds. Long-term effects include a decreased rate of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

What to Look For

Both options definitely have their strong points, and regardless of which you choose there are documented health benefits related to both lifestyles. Perhaps one of the easiest ways to get started is to look into a keto meal delivery service. Choosing something like this will help take some of the guesswork out of meal planning while you adjust to your new lifestyle. It can also be helpful for you to see how meals are prepared when you are working with specific ingredients that are either eliminated completely or are restricted for various reasons. A meal delivery service is also an option to revisit even if you’ve been following a keto or paleo lifestyle for a longer period of time. It can provide new inspiration for meals and help bring you out of a meal planning rut.

As you can see, both the keto and the paleo lifestyles offer some great health benefits. The additional bonus is that both diets have been around for quite some time and researching meal plans and shopping lists is fairly quick and painless. If you are looking for something that is going to help you find a healthy lifestyle, but that you will manage to stick with, I highly recommend the keto and paleo diets. They are certain to be more than just a fad diet that quickly becomes stale and frustrating after the first few weeks.
